I really had my heart set on going to Russell’s Steakhouse. I am a foodie and NOTHING make me happier than a good steakhouse burger, grilled the way I like it. I will admit, Russells did not meet my expectations at all. First when my husband and I arrived we had to wait almost 5 minutes for someone to seat us. There was no one as the hostess stand and the waiters and waitresses I could see where talking to each other. Being a steak house I would expect it to be expensive but if I am going to pay that much I am expecting QUALITY! I will give it. Their beer battered cheese sticks were GREAT!! The coating was even, the cheese was hot and VERY good. Worth every penny. There service was HORRIBLE! My husband ordered a baked sweet potato and BBQ Chicken Breast and I ordered a burger. We put our meal order in with our appetizer order. While we where enjoying our appetizer, another family of 3 came in. They ordered the same thing I had ordered and yet all 3 of them got their food before we did. Then I asked my waitress for ketcup and mayo for my burger and that took her 5-10 minutes to get! I watched her stand around and talk to people instead of getting something as simple as that. I was half way tempted to walk over to the table that the other people were at and take their ketcup. Then my husbands baked potato was so cold that the butter and sugar on it didn’t even melt! For the price the portions of food are not worth it. And if you are a Burger lover like myself, don’t expect anything special. They do not grind their meat on location so if you are expecting to go get medium or medium rare steakhouse burger then you might want to go to a real steak house. Russell’s will never EVER have to worry about me stepping foot in there EVER again!

Expensive. Nice place but overpriced. Not really what I expected. Steak wasn’t that great considering the price I paid for it. Seems like a high priced place on a low budget. I’ve had better steaks at Texas Roadhouse. Service was good. Not saying I wont ever try it again but not a destination place for me.

Ok so I’m on the road 40+ weeks out of the year so I eat out quite a bit, I am not a disgruntled employee or a competitor and you should be able to see my few other reviews. I don’t generally review but occasionally I feel compelled to. And always remember when reading any online reviews – more people complain than say nice things so for one I always double the good stuff said to balance any negatives.

Tuna ok a bit uneven but cooked close to rare in some places, medium to medium rare others. I ordered rare and if you like tuna you get this part.

Don’t take my drink until it’s done. When I order another and the level is low, do not assume I am out. At $5.50 for gin I can pay 25 cents for at home I drink every last drop. I get what you charge but let me drink it.

No cold butter. Better is meant to be spread not chucked on and wait until it melts. Take batches out of the cooler to warm before serving.

No butter in plastic tubs with lids. You are a ‘steakhouse’ not chain restaurant. I get that at Waffle House.

Salad dressing – see above and that is not a very good Balsamic Vinaigrette. Go buy some Newman’s own and eat it. Do you make yours or buy premade?

Use your leftover rolls to make your own croutons; don’t give me ones out of a bag. Remember the title ‘steakhouse’ come with extra responsibilities and they only take 5 minutes to cook a nice size batch.

Salad was OK, not great. Lettuce, thick sliced tomato (which actually was better than most you get in the winter time), thick sliced onion, cukes and cheddar cheese and some sort of flavorless white cheese. Again – I can get this at waffle house. Take the 10 minutes in the morning to toast up some sesame seeds, sunflower seeds. Use blue cheese instead of cheddar and white form a bag or something to make it YOUR salad not just another random salad – you are ‘steakhouse’

If one orders with no side bring entrée on smaller plate – looked like you forgot something and made the tuna look small. And bring an extra roll – I just saved you on no side so spring for a free roll for me

Service good checked on me a lot maybe too much too many people checking on me. I just want to eat.

Is this a crappy place; no. Is it the ‘best ever’ no. It is a good place to eat some not bad food. Value is midrange but not way expensive and way cheap as some have described. A few tweaks and the dinner would have been more memorable but to say it was bad is not a true statement.

4 stars for overall, minus one for the above.

I love steak! And I Love Russell’s!!! I put their steaks on par with anyone anywhere for flavor! Sides are great! Appetizers are well prepared. Salads are large. Desert was delicious.
What to expect…Think Outback with a “mom and pop” country flavor. You wont need your suit and tie, but you will need the napkin in your lap.
We found Russells by accident staying a the Microtel next door, but now any time I’m in the RDU-Chapel Hill area it will be a good excuse to go to Russells!
If you like hot food and steak so tender you can cut it with a fork this place is worth trying. I’ve eaten a a lot of great places in North Carolina, but I’d put Russells in the top 5.
So leave your “airs” behind and GO EAT A STEAK!!! I think you’ll be glad you did.
