My family and I drive from Houston several times each year to buy for special holidays in advance because with refrigeration, the chocolate whether boxed, bagged or in a tin will stay fresh until you need to use it. The store smells wonderful and you are welcomed in with a free piece of their chocolate on every visit. This single piece speaks volumes about the outstanding quality of their product. Their back room area is the special surprise. It is the discount area for holidays past or slightly irregular pieces of chocolate that didn’t make the “perfect box cut”. These are sold in bulk boxes called “Bloopers” and the savings are tremendous. On our last visit, we were able to buy a 3 lb box of chocolate with nuts for $19.99. I also bought ahead for Valentine’s Day.
The store sells hand dipped ice cream and fudge with Dubai chocolate available in individual or bagged pieces. The store must be kept cool inside for the chocolate, so bring a light jacket or wear sleeves and the factory does not offer tours, as it interrupts production. All major holidays plus regular chocolate are offered and the staff are super nice about helping…because believe me when I say it can be hard to choose when surrounded by so many choices, including sugar free chocolates. Definitely stop by…it’s worth a trip!
On my road trip, I decided to pop into the Russell Stover store in Corsicana. Now, I’m not the biggest Russell Stover fan, but I was pleasantly surprised! They own a few other brands and offer every chocolate treat you could possibly imagine.
The real highlight? They make homemade fudge right there on-site! No need to settle for the big boxes you find at CVS or grocery stores. I grabbed six generous bars of their fudge for just $20, and let me tell you—it was some of the best fudge I’ve ever had!
The service was incredibly friendly, and I loved the free samples—they really know how to treat their customers. If you’re ever in the area, this place is a must-visit for any chocolate lover. You won’t regret it!
Boxes of bloopers are good too.
Additionally, there appears to be a decline in overall quality while prices continue to increase. As a customer, this combination makes it difficult to justify continued patronage. Until pricing and value align more reasonably with the market, I will be choosing to shop elsewhere.
