The Rum House: A New Favorite in Annapolis

We have been dying to get to The Rum House in Annapolis for a while now, and let me tell you, it was worth every second of the wait. Sometimes when you build a place up in your head, it can’t possibly live up to the hype, but this experience totally exceeded our expectations.

From the moment we walked in, the management made us feel incredibly welcome. It is refreshing to go somewhere where the hospitality feels this genuine. Our server was excellent as well, attentive and clearly proud of the menu they are serving.

The food and drinks were the real stars of the show. We started with the signature rum punch, and you have to love the flames for that extra bit of flair. For appetizers, the lobster bisque was rich and silky, and the doubles were the perfect flavorful start to the meal.
For the main course, the rockfish was cooked to absolute perfection. It was fresh, flaky, and exactly what you want when dining in a town like Annapolis. We managed to save just enough room for the guava cheesecake, which was a tropical, creamy dream of a dessert.

If you are looking for a spot that delivers on atmosphere, service, and incredible Caribbean-inspired flavors, The Rum House is it. We are already planning our next visit.

We’ve been wanting to try this place and my goodness, they delivered! The food and drinks were incredible, super flavorful. Service was top notch. Everyone was very welcoming and attentive. Our server Nadia was great. And the building itself is beautiful.

I read the reviews beforehand and have to say that a lot of the complaints people have with this place seem to have been worked out or were addressed. For example, bread pudding taking a while to cook- they let us know this when we put our orders in in case we planned to order it. They take this place seriously, and it shows.

Our first visit to Rumhouse was for their Soca brunch, and from the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was wonderful. The music, the décor, and the overall energy created a warm and inviting space — truly a whole vibe.

Now let me speak plainly about the food.
The curry chicken was excellent — beautifully seasoned with just the right amount of heat. The sweetness of the pumpkin paired perfectly with the chickpeas, creating a balanced and satisfying dish, and the roti brought everything together just right. No potatoes were needed — the flavors stood confidently on their own.

The mocktail, a refreshing blend of sorrel with a splash of seltzer, was light, crisp, and perfect for brunch.

We were also treated to a bread basket with fresh, delicate pastries that weren’t overly sweet — a thoughtful and much-appreciated touch.

What truly stood out was the care and hospitality shown by the owners, Dr. Coryse Brathwaite Zebovitz and Dr. Edward Zebovitz. Their warmth, attentiveness, and genuine commitment to their guests made a lasting impression and reflect the heart behind this establishment.

Between the food, the atmosphere, and the hospitality, this was a memorable experience, and we’ll absolutely be back. If you’re visiting, the curry chicken is a must.

I will admit that I didn’t have the highest expectations for Rumhouse, but this place really blew me away. We did the Chef’s Table and everything from the service to the food to the atmosphere was top notch. From the minute we walked in the door, everyone was so friendly and warm. Our waitress Jess and the Bar Manager Allen were especially attentive and welcoming.

All six courses were delicious and the serving sizes were huge for a tasting menu. We’re very excited to enjoy our leftovers at home. We’ve been to Michelin star restaurants that didn’t even come close to our overall experience tonight. We made the reservation because we received a gift card, but we will certainly be back to enjoy the food and drinks again in the near future. We’re rooting for this place to thrive!

Great Caribbean inspired food and cocktails in a very inviting space, everything from the appetizers to entrees and dessert was great. Great friendly service rounds up the good experience. While the mojitos are obviously their expertise, the Madame Coco cocktails was delicious.

We were really looking forward to eating at Rumhouse, and everything exceeded our expectations! The food, cocktails, ambiance and service were all wonderful. We tried the oxtail croquettes, gumbo, lamb jerk, and bread pudding. Our server Ian was great and gave us great recommendations. Don’t miss the bread pudding, it’s worth the wait!! We will definitely be back!

Had the opportunity and time to visit a new establishment tonight in Annapolis and it was nothing more than amazing. The food, so rich and delicious, the ambience, warm and calm, and the staff professional and courteous. The creativity the chef put into these dishes definitely made me feel the Caribbean vibe deep in my soul. The dessert alone will have me back soon. Thank you Richard and Ian for a wonderful experience!!!

I recently celebrated my birthday at Rumhouse, a spot that had been on my must-try list for a while, so I was really looking forward to the experience. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, and the host who checked us in was warm and bubbly. She shared that the menu featured authentic Caribbean cuisine with bold flavors, which got us even more excited.

We started with a few appetizers: the oxtail croquettes, scallops, and a prawn dish. For our mains, we tried the gumbo and the crab & dumpling soup. The standout dish of the night was definitely the scallops, they were perfectly cooked and flavorful. Unfortunately, the other dishes fell a bit flat and lacked the depth we were expecting.

For drinks, we ordered the Rumhouse Punch and the Old Athens, both of which were excellent. However, the service from our waiter was disappointing. Despite mentioning that it was our first visit, he didn’t provide any insight into the menu or share recommendations. He rarely checked in with us and seemed to give much more attention to a nearby table. At one point, we ran out of water and drinks and had to wave him down for assistance.

Overall, Rumhouse has great potential.
The ambiance, cocktails, and concept are strong, but the inconsistency in service and some of the food left us wanting more.

This was my second time dining at Rumhouse, and my first visit was absolutely perfect. On this second visit, I was a little disappointed that the rum cake recipe had changed. The new spiced version with pineapple wasn’t as appetizing to me and didn’t have that rich rum flavor I loved the first time. It also felt a bit out of place for a restaurant that celebrates rum in its name. The original rum cake was buttery, full of rum flavor, and had that perfect pound cake texture that made it unforgettable. It felt like a true signature dessert, while the new one reminds me more of something seasonal for fall.

One small thing I noticed was that there weren’t any spoons for serving appetizers or sides, which made sharing a bit tricky. Other than that, everything else was wonderful. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was just as inviting as I remembered. I’ll definitely be back and hope the original rum cake makes a return soon.

From the time we arrived to the time we left we felt very welcome by the warm staff. It’s a beautiful venue and the food is delicious and tasty. Things I recommend on the menu are in the photos, 1) the red snapper is delicious and well seasoned. I suggest the 2) gumbo as well as the 3) doubles and the bread pudding put me into a happy food coma lol 🙂 . The chef was very helpful and helping us select our meals and that added a special touch. I look forward to returning to try additional items on the menu. Thank you for a wonderful meal.
