The bennys had good portions but we weren’t particularly impressed with either. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly. The chicken was fried a bit hard but it was decent. The biscuit was moist. The thick slice of tomato on the Blackstone was raw.
The pork tasso cream sauce was good but the tabasco hollandaise wasn’t our favorite. The breakfast potatoes weren’t seasoned at all and for $4/side, we were really disappointed. The iced coffee was good but it could’ve been filled up a bit more.
Customer service was good and the pick up process was clear. Overall, it’s a decent spot. Quite expensive for what it is though.
I stopped into Ruby Slipper Café – Metairie while running errands, and it turned out to be one of those meals that just hits the soul. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by the warm “Sweet! You’re Here” mural, the sound of happy tables, and the smell of biscuits baking. The staff kept the energy light and friendly even though the place was busy, and the service stayed quick and attentive the whole time.
I went with the Fried Catfish and Grits, and it was everything I hoped for — golden-crispy catfish laid over creamy, stone-ground grits and finished with a smoky pork tasso cream sauce that tied it all together. The texture of the fish was perfect: flaky on the inside, seasoned just right, and not greasy at all. Add in one of their house-made biscuits and a cup of coffee, and it’s the kind of brunch that makes you want to slow down and savor it.
Ruby Slipper blends that signature New Orleans comfort with a polished, welcoming vibe. Whether you’re local or just passing through, it’s a spot where you can taste real Louisiana flavor in every bite. I’ll definitely be back to try the Sweet Heat Chicken & French Toast Bites next time — but those catfish and grits? Worth every single bite.

Review for Ruby Slipper Cafe
Had a great breakfast experience at Ruby Slipper! The waffles and omelets had that perfect Southern touch—flavorful and comforting. The place is cozy and inviting, with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Service was top-notch, especially from Khalilah, who went above and beyond to make our visit enjoyable. Good people, good vibes, and great food. Highly recommended—go if you’re in the mood for a delicious Southern-style breakfast!
