Tasty food, generous servings, below average prices. My wife and I had the roast duck noodle soup. Tasty duck, lots of nice noodles, I think it was Chinese broccoli cooked tender. Broth was okay. Lots of takeout traffic. Not where I would take a first date, run down. Service was okay. Decent parking in the lot. I’d go again for the food. Takeout is ideal. Lots of other menu choices to try. Discovered this through Vic and Jeff’s food blog on YouTube.

Ruby BBQ in El Monte is a hidden gem for those looking for delicious and flavorful Chinese cuisine. Their famous roasted pork and duck are a must-try, and the portions are generous and reasonably priced.

Every year during Chinese New Year, we purchase their roasted pork and duck to add to our New Year’s eve feast. Today we came here dined in for the first time and were impressed with the lunch special dishes including Chinese broccoli with Chinese sausage, roasted pork, and fried garlic pork ribs. Each dish was packed with flavor and satisfying.

What sets Ruby BBQ apart from other restaurants is the added bonus of free rice and soup with their lunch specials. The family-owned atmosphere is also a plus, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. The restaurant may only have a few tables, but the taste of their food more than makes up for it. The fact that they roast their meats three times a day to ensure freshness is a testament to their commitment to quality.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for authentic and delicious Chinese cuisine, look no further than Ruby BBQ in El Monte. Their famous roasted pork and duck, along with the other tasty dishes, make this restaurant a must-visit

CASH ONLY! Most dishes average $15/plate. Bring enough for tip too!
I feel bad, because I barely had enough to cover the cost, but there guys are REALLY good! The skin on the Roast Pork is the crispiest I’ve ever had! If you have teeth problems, that crunch may give you problems though. You’ll have to order something softer, or give the skin to someone else. The roast duck wasn’t anything special, but they got the taste down and the skin on the duck was nice. Just the meat wasn’t at a prime young age, but they did a good job with a mediocre duck. Would love to see what they do with better ingredients next time.
The egg plants were on point, and their “A-vegetables” weren’t too oily, and had tons of flavor.
Their short ribs were GREAT too! Seasoned with a nice and sweet glaze, with a really crispy breaded crust. BUT, the bone is left in because it gives this impression of being fresher. But between spitting out the bone and crunching on the crust, you may bite into the wrong one hard enough. So be careful! But still worth eating.

Cash only! Pork belly as of Feburary 17, 2025 is $21.99 a pound worth it. I know it’s more expensive than other places but this place has really mastered there craft of making roasted pork belly. I always stop by here if I’m in the area. I’m a large hispanic male that’s eaten chicharron all my life and this place really impresses.

Fewer options late into the evening, but food was pretty good and quick. Ordered the two item bbq combo with crispy pork and duck as those were the only two options. Comes with rise and veggies (baby bok choy) which paired well with the rich meat. Service was decent, but definitely a language barrier, but not so bad with pictures and pointing. Was hoping to get some bbq pork and wish the crispy pork was crispier, but was very good and a place I would visit again when in the neighborhood.

Best Roasted Pork in all of Los Angeles! You are not here for the atmosphere or service. The restaurant is run down and the people are generally rude. That being said, ignoring the service and atmosphere is worth the roasted pork!

5 star for the pork belly!
Good portions for the price. The atmosphere is a bit underwhelming but it doesn’t really matter if you’re just trying to satisfy your cravings for some delicious roasted Pork Belly.

Found this little cozy Cantonese cuisine in El Monte. I have been craving for HK foods for quite sometime, decided to give this a try. Their price is very reasonable, 5 dishes for $46. The most expensive is the roast pork, 1lb for 14.90. And it is very delicious, very crispy and crunchy skin. The rest of the foods are very good as well, however, they are on the salty side. Absolutely love this restaurant, will definitely buy from them, and try other dishes as well.

Hole in the wall charcuterie. Absolute best cantonese roasted meats, siu laap in the San Gabriel valley. We go here for the roast pork, siu yok. Like lechon. Rarely we dine in, but absolute must for ancestral death days and other Chinese holidays. Included menu as well — would call in before so they can prepare.

Was recommended about their roast pork. The location is an industrial area and also saw a few Vietnamese Pho restaurant. Ruby BBQ only has roast pork and duck from the BBQ section. To me, it is Vietnamese Chinese since traditional Chinese BBQ has much more items. Also, the roast pork already have the bones removed, which Chinese BBQ should have bones intact. Enough of comparison, the roast pork is great, crunchy skin and juicy meat. Didn’t try the duck, and am sure it is as good. There are so some simple menu dishes, I only got the vegetable, it is ok. Reminder, cash only business.
