Go eat here. Unreal food. Do not be fooled by the low key exterior! You just stumbled on the best authentic Italian dining in the Greater Sacramento area. This place is old-school kind of good. You will feel it from the moment you walk in. The food is always HOT and a homemade fresh kind of taste. Everything from the warm bread they serve at the table to the ceasar salad and the pastas is 5/5 stars. You will not be disappointed.

Server/hostess Nicole is always so good to us every time we come in. Again, old school good….the service and consistently amazing, authentic food experience is what keeps us coming back.

Oh Em G! My review is for catering service for my Mom’s Celebration of Life and we couldn’t have been happier!! Food was delish, service was excellent, the owner was the best and made salads fresh at our house. Everyone raved about the food! Thank you Rubino’s! Best service ever! And that includes eating at the restaurant! Always a joy! Great job Rubino’s!

First time dining at Rubino’s. When I walked in the first thing I noticed was the old Italian aroma. Every table had a lit candle. The restaurant was tastefully decorated for the holidays. Service was top notch and food was delicious. Yes it was pricy but well worth it! Quality food and service is worth the treat! Can’t wait for my next visit.

We went to Rubino’s for a pre-Valentine’s dinner, hoping for a relaxed and enjoyable evening together, but unfortunately the experience never quite came together the way a special night out should.

We made a reservation and were seated without issue, and the evening started off pleasantly enough. I ordered the minestrone soup and a large dinner salad, while my girlfriend ordered a filet with gnocchi and a Caesar salad. The first issue came early — my soup arrived while she had nothing to eat, and her Caesar salad never arrived at all. We didn’t immediately complain and assumed it would come shortly, but it was simply forgotten.

By the time her entrée finally arrived, I had already finished my soup. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. Her filet was extremely gristly — far beyond what anyone would reasonably expect from a steak at this price point. After trying to work around it, she ultimately had to send it back because much of it was inedible. While the kitchen remade the steak, I finished my entire meal, leaving us eating separately rather than enjoying dinner together — which is really the whole point of going out for a nice meal.

The replacement filet took long enough that she had already lost her appetite by the time it arrived. We ended up taking it to go instead of actually sharing the meal together at the restaurant.

When the bill came (over $150 for two people), we noticed we had been charged for the Caesar salad that never arrived. To their credit, they removed it when we pointed it out, but there was no additional acknowledgment of the inconvenience — no adjustment to the bill, no complimentary dessert, and no gesture to make up for a disrupted dining experience.

One additional surprise was that bread isn’t included; garlic bread must be ordered separately for about $9. For an Italian restaurant, that felt like a missed opportunity to add warmth and hospitality to the meal.

The food we were able to enjoy was decent and the staff were polite, but the overall experience felt disjointed and disappointing — especially for a special occasion dinner at this price level. When you go out as a couple, you expect to receive your meals together and actually share the experience. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen here, and the lack of recovery after multiple issues left us feeling overlooked.

We left wishing the evening had matched the occasion.

Rubino’s restaurant is a great Italian fresco dine in gem within Sacramento area & nearby freeway accessibility where locals there takes time to drive and visit. Very fun fare generous on servings of sourdough breads with dipping sauce of marinated herbs balsamic with olive oil. Enjoyed appetizer soft calamari but crunchy crumbs. We ordered grilled salmon & chicken breasts main dish with amazing full cup servings of risotto rice with options between soups & fresh veggies on the sides. Impressive quality from scratch white clam chowder and not salty. A must place to visit & return visit with satisfying ambience, quality foods and receptive service.

We have checked out a lot of ‘Italian’ places in the area and are trying to find the best one. We had high hopes for Rubinos but the food was a bit of a miss.

The good:

Great ambiance, and the staff is well dressed and the tables look formal.

The food came out quickly and our waitress was very fun.

The clam chowder was delicious and had a good clam to chowder ratio.

The cosmo was well mixed. And the Italian soda was good and had the right flavor.

The bread came out fresh and warm and the oil and vinegar tasted light and fresh. The presentation was also lovely,

The seafood feta had a good amount of seafood and was very good. The oysters were perfect and the shrimp were cooked just right.

The bad:

We ordered a dish with risotto and expected risotto for the price. When the dish came out it was a lump of rice pilaf instead. Very disappointed.

The veal came out tough which is the opposite of what veal should be. The whole point is that you want tender meat. It’s almost like it wasn’t veal at all.

The minestrone was unlike any we have ever had. Minestrone is a vegetable soup, that tends to be lighter but what we were served was thick like pea soup.

The sole fish we were served lacked flavor. I get that sole is a white fish and lighter in flavor but the fish was just so bland and disappointing.

On the opposite end of the spectrum the salad we ordered went overboard on the vinegar. Just too sour to eat.

Lastly the parking is limited and fills up fast.

I feel like (as a trained chef) that the biggest problems of our dinner came from the kitchen and somebody who doesn’t really know what they are doing, especially in regards to Italian food. Example, meat should be rare and tender not tough, spice your fish, take the time to actually make the risotto (if you can), and don’t just pour gigantic amounts of vinegarette on the salad.

Sadly we had high hopes but we won’t be back as we have discovered better Italian restaurants who know what they are doing. We paid too much money for such sad food, and in the end no matter how good the ambiance, no matter how great the wait staff is, the food is what matters most and this place just really missed the mark.

We had a lovely dining experience at Rubino’s. She had the Penne Putenesca, which was blessed with a very rich flavorful marinara sauce, while I had the Chicken Picatta, the chicken was breaded lightly and soaked up that wonderful lemon sauce and the capers just topped it off perfectly. Then the dessert came and oh my limoncello cake and tiramisu with Italian sodas.

Absolutely amazing! My mother and I went here on a whim and we adored it. Our waitress was nice and knew exactly what we wanted before we had to ask her! We ordered two drinks (chocolate martini and strawberry lemon drop) which were strong, but good. For food, we ordered the fried zucchini sticks, the sole, shrimp scampi and lemon cake. Everything tasted fresh, authentic, and delicious. The portions were a great size and for a treat yourself night, this place is just what you need

Decent Italian.

Interior is nice and staff is incredible. I came her awhile ago a d wasnt impressed nor was my company but I gave it a 2nd chance to overwhelm me..didnt.

First thing first..breaded chicken in Chicken piccata or Chicken Alfredo is not me..at all..piccata does have slight use of panco but this felt more like kids chicken fingers

Food is ok but it really gives off a “not trying hard” or “been serving same thing for years” taste. Potatoe Tomatoe tho right..everyones got an opinion.

Obviously we’ve all been somewhere better but I’ve been here twice and don’t really have a reason for a 3rd.

Remember on The Sopranos when Tony tells Artie that Vesuvios menu needed a revamp..same here

Cute little restaurant in Rocklin! The atmosphere inside makes your feel cozy and relaxed. Our server was super nice and we were in and out of the restaurant in less than an hour. SPEEDY SERVICE! The food was just “okay” though. There was nothing that stood out about it. Also, the chicken in the fettuccine was a little undercooked.
