The Royal Outpost opened its doors first in 2011, in Carlisle’s busy town centre, with one thought in mind – serving wholesome, soul warming Thai Asian & fusion food, with love, passion and authenticity. That philosophy is what keeps us here today, constantly innovating, boldly forging our own path in Cumbria’s ever evolving food scene. Our food speaks a language that can only be understood after you’ve tried it, a language of love. Rich sauces and tender meat, spices that sing to your senses, the freshest fruit and vegetables, and aromas that can make your mouth water from down the street.
Malaysian and Thai dining in elegant, Tudor-styled, 1st-floor restaurant with oak-panelled walls.

The reasons are plenty: the staff are warm and welcoming, the restaurant is spotless, and the atmosphere is lovely whether you visit during the day or in the evening. But the real star is the food. It’s on a completely different level and has been consistently excellent throughout the entire year. The crispy pork belly with hoisin sauce, pad Thai, spring rolls, and Tom Yum soup are all exceptional — genuinely dishes you’ll crave again.
If you’re ever in Carlisle, do yourself a favour and check them out. The flavours are authentic, the presentation is beautiful, and the quality is outstanding. Prices are fair for what you get, and they offer various daytime deals that are well worth taking advantage of. My only tiny disappointment is that they’re closed on Mondays — but honestly, everyone deserves a day off
Parking is a little difficult as you have to park at the lane at the side of the restaurant.
Will definitely go back when in the area.
Some good offers on during the week of 2 main courses for £30.
The food really stood out, especially their authentic Asian flavors. The BBQ chicken was juicy and nicely smoky, and the lamb skewers were tender, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. Everything tasted fresh and well-prepared. Their unique cocktails were also a nice touch—creative, refreshing, and a great complement to the meal.
Thank you!! I’d definitely comeback.
Obviously we haven’t booked anything for the evening walk in and we’re amazed!
Good for wee ones as well!
P.S.
Of course we had to had dessert , unfortunately the wee one already started the Sticky toffee pudding before talking a picture!
Outside area and 2 levels inside ready to welcome you!
Worked as a chef for 18 years and it’s really hard to impress me but they managed!
Well done and thank you!
