Food is sub par, ribs were chewy and tough. Raspberry BBQ sauce was excellent. Ordered hot garlic parm wings, sauce was pretty bad, but the wongs were cooked perfectly, crispy outside and tender inside. Call ahead because there is a 50/50 shot they have anything on the menu. Drinks are awful, beer taps were empty, so if you want good beer there are so many other options. Mixed drinks? Nah, it’s bottom shelf trash and they aren’t mixing drinks like you’d expect. If you want a bottle of Bud or a beam and coke, you’ll be ok, dont get fancy and by fancy, I mean anything that has a recipe. Wait staff is very friendly. Owner is a nice guy. The workers and owners seem more like patrons there to party than run a business, think of it like a basement bar. Decor is weird for the most part and the atmosphere is like a neighbors garage party, with a lot of junk around. I wanted to love it there, but this is more for people who live within walking distance and just want to drink together, it’s a local corner bar.

My new favorite hang out! The wings are amazing, the prices are great. Service is wonderful. Plus it’s a historic building in Youngstown so why not stop and visit. It’s cozy with a laid back atmosphere where you can just relax with friends.

Watching the Bar Rescue 2015 episode – Louie’s fowl mouth and his constantly touching his face and mouth – using hands to lean on his face while listening to Taffer – then touching ice machine, bar glasses and everything else never washing his hands – egads – talk about constant cross contamination. That was then and certain bad habits never change – bacteria abounds.

All five stars? Well, it must have been Saturday, I must have gotten a rack of ribs with extra sauce that were smoky good, and the bartender must have done a great job taking my order and getting me a beer.
Seriously, I was absolutely impressed by the ribs. Cooked over charcoal or wood because the smoke ring was perfect, as were the ribs. No fat (NO fat!) and just a slight char on the ends. There are a lot of great rib joints around Youngstown, and since it’s harder and harder to find roast lamb on Saturdays, ribs are my safety pick. The ribs at the Royal Oaks were perfect, better after I got them home and slapped them in a casserole and baked at 250 tightly wrapped for like 40 minutes. Absolutely great flavor that will impress anyone who likes a nice rack of ribs.
(A comma can change the meaning of a sentence, but not always) $25 for just a rack, no sides.

This place is a little rough around the edges, but it’s a Youngstown classic! The atmosphere is very cool and unique. Friendly crowd. Awesome service. A little slow with the food but they were training a new cook. You HAVE to try to RASPBERRY BBQ sauce. Super unique and yummy!

I met a friend here because I had heard they had a makeover a few years back thanks to Bar Rescue. I don’t think they kept much of the upgrades, but the place is still fun and wild. We had a great time with the owner until he passed out on a cot in the middle of the floor. The waitress was super fun and very attentive. She even saved the place when she stayed later than required to keep the bar open for the patrons still there.
I would recommend getting here early if you don’t want the drama, late if you do.
