I recently had the pleasure of dining at ROYAL INDIA and I must say it was an absolutely outstanding experience from start to finish. This Indian restaurant has truly mastered the perfect combination of authentic cuisine, exceptional service, and warm hospitality that makes you feel like family.
From the moment I walked through the door, the staff greeted us with genuine smiles and enthusiasm. My server Bhavna was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and took time to explain the different regional specialties and spice levels. She made excellent recommendations tailored to my preferences and dietary requirements, demonstrating a level of attentiveness that’s increasingly rare these days.
The food was nothing short of spectacular. I ordered butter chicken that was rich, creamy, and authentically prepared. Every dish showcased the chef’s expertise and respect for traditional Indian cooking methods while maintaining consistently high quality.
What truly impressed me was how the entire staff worked seamlessly together. The manager stopped by my table to ensure everything was perfect, the food runners were efficient and courteous, and our water glasses never sat empty.
The restaurant maintained a clean, inviting atmosphere with beautiful décor. The prices were reasonable for generous portions and quality of food served. I left feeling satisfied, appreciated. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an authentic, memorable culinary experience. This restaurant deserves every bit of praise it receives!
Service was very slow — it took about 45 minutes for our food to arrive, which was frustrating. The atmosphere wasn’t great either; the tables were cramped and it felt a bit overcrowded. They do have some beer options, which was a plus.
Not a terrible experience, but definitely room for improvement in both flavor and service. Average experience . 3 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️
If you haven’t yet eaten at Royal India, you are definitely missing out!
Masala fries was the biggest surprise of all ! Anyone who enjoys Taco Bell Nacho fries is in for a treat, great option to try.
We plan to visit here again soon.
All in all, such a great experience during our visit to San Diego.
We walked in for a reservation and were met by a single staff member in the front who acted like we were invisible. He shrugged off our reservation details and reluctantly pointed us to a table. It felt like we were burdening him just by being there.
The gouging started immediately. We asked for bottled water (traveling with kids) and were charged $6 per bottle. For that price, you expect premium spring water, but we got standard bottles you’d buy in bulk. We let it slide. But then, ordering basic menu items seemed to annoy him, as if we were asking for special favors.
The breaking point was the lack of basic human empathy. Our 2-year-old got fussy, so we asked to switch our order to-go to avoid disturbing the one other table in the restaurant. Ten minutes later, our daughter fell asleep. We saw a chance to actually sit and enjoy a hot lunch in an empty restaurant, so we asked the waiter if we could switch back to dine-in. Crucially, the food was not fully packed yet—it was still being packed.
He refused. He told us he “wouldn’t change it” and that if we wanted to stay, we had to take the to-go boxes from him, open them, and serve ourselves at the table. He refused to plate the food even though it wasn’t fully in boxes yet.
I asked to speak to a manager, and he bluntly replied, “I am the manager, my name is Jaz.” If he really is the manager, this business is in trouble. To top it off, we got back to our hotel to find he hadn’t packed a single spoon, fork, or napkin. We had to go hunt for cutlery just to eat the meal we overpaid for.
To the owner: Your food is excellent, but your front-of-house is driving customers away.
