I have been wanting some Indian food, and saw on Royal India’s website they offer lunch specials that were pretty reasonable. So I went to Royal India.

I was seated quickly, and brought water… I also ordered a Masala Chai.

Once there, I found out they no longer have Lunch Specials, but opened a buffet ($17.95) instead. Apparently the website has been incorrect for over a year, but the owner has not fixed it.

I did not really want buffet, although it looked decent. So I ordered the Chicken Korma ($19.95). Then I found out that unlike the lunch specials I was hoping for, they do not serve Naan with their dishes, so also ordered some Garlic Naan.

The food was delivered to my table in a reasonable amount of time… and looked good, although I thought the portion of Korma was pretty small for the price.

Korma description in the menu states it has cashews and raisins in it. I think I could taste some cashew, although there were no whole cashews like I have had at other restaurants with this dish… and no raisins either. It did taste strongly of curry leaves which overpowered the cashew flavor I love. But every cook does this dish differently. Large portion of rice was ok.

Garlic naan was very thin, and lacked the chewy softness I expect from naan. This was just flat, no rise at all.

Masala chai was lacking in flavor, but it was a large portion, which was nice.

Service was very good… Ingrid checked on me repeatedly, and was very nice.

For the price ($36+) with the tip, I felt like this was a very expensive lunch, and while I did take some home… it was not even a meal (unless you count just the rice). Usually if I spend that, I get at least one other meal from the takeout.

I guess I will have to just stick to making Korma at home when I want some.

Not sure if I will be back….

I am new to Indian food, so I decided to visit Royal India for the buffet. There were several dishes to choose from. I loved the “classic beef curry” – the beef was tender, succulent, and very tastey ! I also appreciated the help my server, Cillest lent me. She explained some of the dishes, and answered my many questions. They also have a regular menu, wine, and beer (some on-tap.)

Great place! I went for the buffet because of course I did. I was not disappointed! Mango lassi was excellent too. I’ll be back!

The food is really good, I mean really good…but we’ve had our service issues with timeliness of getting seated or getting food to table. We’ve also had issues with menu options not being available on more than one occasion. Staff are friendly and at times it looks like it’s not busy, but we’ve seen a lot of DoorDash/GrubHub pickups so that’s likely why our table service hasn’t been that great. Excellent food though!

After experiencing the lunch buffet I have reduced my rating from 3 stars to 1. Bland is an understatement except for the fried fish that had way to much salt. Naan bread was thin and soggy. I tried everything and there was not one single item that was enjoyable. I told the swever how bad I thought it was, she’s worked there for years, she told me it was down to which chef was working. I will never eat food from there again. If your passing through Eugene just pass this place by.
Mediocre and overpriced.
Indian food is my soul food, I love it, cook it from scratch.
I ordered Butter Masala, $20.95, expecting a rich and flavorful dish, I like spicey so asked for their hottest, extra spicey. It was bland, more like a yogurt smoothy than an Indian dish, with only a hint of Indian spices and hot but missing that Indian fire. The Naan bread was limp, soggy and chewy. I was pleasantly surprised by the rice, the addition of a few spice seeds gave it some flavor..
I will try their lunch buffet next time to get a taste of what they offer before I close the door on this place.

A beautiful oasis of tranquility! Royal India has delicious food and great service. We had the Manchurian cauliflower (Sorry about the photo; we were so excited to try it that we almost forgot to take it). The butter chicken was also delicious. We really loved the chili-garlic naan. On top of all of that, it was Wednesday and wine by the glass was $5!

Great food! The Kale fritters were awesome. The spice level is milder than normal, meaning if you are asking for “spicy” stuffs, it will be less spicier than what you are familiar with. Missi Roti was delicious and flavorful! Other meat dishes were OK, not extraordinary. Very swift service. Nice staffs.

One of the best tandoori lamb and goat biryani dishes ever. The food here is absolutely fantastic. Everything we ordered was delicious: cauliflower manchurian, naan, korma, and shashito. Service was not very attentive.

I think this might be my favorite restaurant in Eugene so far. We always have the buffet. I love that there are plenty of vegetarian options. I enjoyed the tikki masala and paneer and I absolutely love the Madras coffee.
