We’re on a short break in Winchester and walked past the Royal Gurkha and was impressed by their menu so thought it worthy of a visit and we are so glad we did.
The service, food and value were simply incredible. The standout dish was the royal Gurkha Salmon starter which was perfectly cooked and balanced. The portion sizes were generous, freshly cooked and just delicious. Two of us left with full bellies and very happy for less than £60 (inc a tip), if we were local we would be regulars without a doubt.

Absolutely loved the food! Cuisine is authentic and aromatic, we loved the warm atmosphere and welcome from all Nepalese people working there. What a fantastic new restaurant! You must try Momas and their bay leaves and cloves milky tea- probably the best chai you will ever have! Highly recommend!

Came across Royal Gurkha by accident while visiting Winchester town and was thoroughly pleased. Great food with brilliant ambience. The staff were very helpful and also suggested foods based on our comments. Royal Gurkha Calamari is a must. Will definitely visit again.

The food was delicious. I had the lamb patan and the spices were wonderfully balanced. The lamb was very tender too. The service was great and the music made it a wonderful atmosphere.

I went to Royal Gurkha last night and ordered a takeaway. Immediately a young gentleman approached me to see if he could help. Very nice manner this chap had, smiley and genuine. I ordered the food and he said I could take a seat while I waited. No sooner had I sat down he brought me some complimentary poppadoms and the pickle tray while I was waiting for the takeaway. I have never had that treatment before! When I tucked into my food later it was very nice indeed, I had the Himalayan lamb dish, which was quite spicy but nicely cooked and also the special fried rice. So light and fragrant. All in all a wonderful experience was had at the Royal Gurkha. My compliments go out to the staff who made my visit all the more enjoyable!

A nice change from the excellent Ghandi in town, offering a heavier mountain curry (the Lamb Royal Gurkha) that had the right heart and was a very good price. The belly pork starter tasted exquisite, and the potato fritter a little unremarkable, there’s lots to discover. Polite and helpful staff gives this small restaurant a cosy, family feel.
