Social Profile:

Welcome to Roxanne—a brilliant, wild, revolutionary project by chef Alexandra Holt, sparked behind a purple door in South Philly two years ago. Named after her mother, who’s been right by her side helping with the build-out, Roxanne is a true labor of love. The vibe is cozy, open, and personal: with an open kitchen, you’re right in the action, catching Alexandra plating each dish and pouring her journey into every detail. Tables are handcrafted by Alexandra and her mom, the entire space designed with their hands. Roxanne’s menu brings ‘American Expressionism’ to the plate, inspired by Alexandra’s life across 30 countries. Expect fearless flavors—seafood, a burger, caviar, organ meats; there’s nothing off-limits.

I was excited to try Roxanne and it exceeded my expectations. Everything was fun and creative, but it was clear, putting the best bite of food on your plate remains the priority.

I know it sounds silly to say, but the bread and butter might be the star of the meal. The bread was piping hot and the better was perfectly salted and flavorful.

The raw cheesesteak was great, but the beef on its own might be the best tartare I’ve ever had!

The short rib gemelli and duck breast are a must!

A truly memorable dining experience. The burger is, without a doubt, the absolute BEST I’ve ever tasted, complemented by top-tier service that is both professional and incredibly attentive. To top it all off, the chocolate cake is simply INCREDIBLE, unlike anything I’ve had before. It melts in your mouth. I highly recommend this spot to any food enthusiast, it is an absolute must-visit in Philadelphia. Also, the chef runs EVERYTHING on her own in the kitchen… we still can’t figure out how she does it!! Thank you for the incredible experience!

The service was seriously impressive at Roxanne. One staff member manned front of house, waited on, and ran dishes for all tables yet was efficient enough that we never felt forgotten or unattended. Food was excellent and the large protein portions were a pleasant surprise. We ordered six dishes for two guests and ended up being full halfway through the meal. My personal favorites were the gnudi and octopus.

She’s a wizard in the kitchen with incredible creativity in her dishes. The tuna cheesesteak and pork chop were the standouts but all th food was delicious. I would definitely recommend a dinner here when you’re in Philly.

Such an awesome experience and the food was absolutely delicious! One of the best, most thoughtful, and tasty places in Philly. From the decor, to the menu, to the presentation and flavors, it was hit after hit. Can’t wait to go back for their tasting experience!

Incredible, whimsical food! Had the pleasure of dining at Roxanne on a hot day and it felt like the dishes we ate were an artistic commentary on classic summer foods. The combinations of flavors were fun and surprising. This place deserves a Michelin star. Will definitely be back to try more of their amazing creations!

Me and my boyfriend ate here a few months ago for my birthday and were so excited to try a seemingly quirky high dining experience in the city. We were a bit skeptical when we were the only people there around 6:30p but figured it would get more filled by 8ish. We ordered some drinks which were good and we got the warm bread to start which came in a ribbon and we thought was cute. It wasn’t homemade and was as good as the Whole Foods Rolls. We decided to ball since it was my birthday and got duck (my favorite) for $70. It came with I think five sauces (one of them being chocolate sauce??) and the duck was chewy and inedible. We also got some pumpkin lasagna which was burnt and also close to inedible. Love that she’s trying to be creative but it’s a bit too “creative” to be priced as a high dining. If she edits in the kitchen and hones in on a few creative dishes then I’d be interested in trying again, but for right now I’d say the dishes are very confused and overall they do not work.

What an absolutely spectacular experience! The service was warm and friendly and low-key. We felt really taken care of. Then the food started coming out, and we were blown away from the first appetizer all the way through to the end of the meal. We had octopus with onion dip, raw cheesesteak (like an elevated tartare), potato on potato, cod with the tiniest pepperoni ever, persimmon sorbet, and pasta with a Vietnamese style treatment. Everything was so inventive and original. You’re not going to get cooking like this anywhere else maybe in the whole world. A really special experience. I wonder if this is what it would be like to eat at El Bulli.

Roxanne might be Philly’s best kept secret. Doing what they do with such a small group of people is extraordinary. I don’t know what’s more impressive: Creating something as uniquely delicious as the Yuzu Poppyseed Cod OR staring at the best burger you’ve ever tasted (as your dessert!!) and wondering how they made something so simple and so perfect.

There’s an infinite amount of great restaurants in Philly, but it’s hard to think to one more inspiring than Roxanne. Go now!

Everything to me was just underwhelming. Nothing was terrible but just okay. Very salty dishes – was thirsty all night after.

Okay cocktails (only 3 choices), wines for PA only (no thanks), baguette was good, salad simple but good flavor, rigatoni was spicy and nothing special, cod was best dish probably but still nothing, and then the duck was $65 and too chewy and salty with too much fat wasn’t crispy or rendered.

Not terrible but just a one and done for me. Atmosphere is kinda odd and the whole dinner just felt strange.
