I previously visited Rowland 6 years ago and gave them 4/5. Recently, I went for their Valentine’s Day Prix Fix Menu. For my appetizer, I had the ravioli, which wasn’t bad. I had the bronzino for my main dish, which was pretty good. I had the white chocolate bread pudding for dessert, which didn’t really taste like bread pudding. My date had the salad, which was small, the eggplant, which she didn’t like at all, and the lemon pastry, which she said was just ok. We were allowed to swap out the eggplant for the lamb shank. It was definitely better than the eggplant, but could’ve been seasoned better. Overall, I would rate my experience about a 3/5. The portions were relatively small and the service was ok, not great. I should also mention taxes and the automatically included gratuity added an additional $60 to the bill and they calculate the gratuity on the total AFTER taxes (why am I paying gratuity on taxes?).

Rowlands is fantastic. Had dinner there last night and the food and service were amazing. We started with creative drinks, the four of us tried different versions of an old fashion, and then the appetizers. I had asparagus soup with trout in it. Just amazing. Then the main course. I had the veal and some one in our party had the pork chop. They were so, so good. Can’t recommend this restaurant enough.

Went for October restaurant week. Food looks good, 2 out of the 3 courses were raw and cold. Had high hopes for this place unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. Heads up they also charge a $4 card fee.

Ignored by our waitress on Valentine’s day and then forced to pay a 20% gratuity. We saw our waitress when she took our order and when she brought the check. Our empty glasses were ignored. When the check arrived with a 20% gratuity included I requested to have the amount adjusted in light of the lack of service. She refused. I can understand that sometimes there can be an “off” night. I cannot understand the customer having to pay for it beyond our less than ideal dining experience.
Update: The owner graciously reached out to me an apologized for the problem we experienced. He even offered us a free dinner which we we declined because we only wished to have our concerns acknowledged.

Had the pleasure of dining here for Valentine’s Day with my significant other! The fixed menu was articulately designed and even included a vegetarian option which I really appreciated. The atmosphere is extremely intimate yet lively. Amazing food and flavor! Not to mention how attentive and friendly the staff was. There was even an incident where a couple refused to pay their bill despite their website mentioning to included gratuity upon booking. Despite this couple being disruptive to our romantic dinner, I thought the staff handled it so well on such a busy night! Cant wait to eat here again!

I had the pleasure of dining at Rowland Fine Dining this evening, and it was truly one of the best culinary experiences I’ve had in Richmond. From start to finish, the service was exceptional. Our server, Kyle, was warm, attentive, and highly knowledgeable he also crafted some of the best cocktails I’ve had!
Unlike many restaurants, it’s clear that Rowland puts great thought and care into every aspect of their offerings. My guest and I visited during Restaurant Week and enjoyed the soup, rockfish risotto, and panna cotta. Each dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious.
I highly recommend Rowland Fine Dining to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. I will certainly be returning!!!

We enjoyed our dinner at Rowland for Richmond Restaurant Week. They only had two staff in the front – a server and bartender. Both seemed to do a great job and really hustled. The restaurant wasn’t that crowded so it wasn’t too bad. The server did a great job. We tried three different appetizers and the winner was the meatballs with the soup second and the shrimp manicotti coming in second and third. Two of our group had the blackened rockfish with crawfish etouffee which was excellent. Two of us had the flat iron steak and one was great and the second one was a poor cut of meat that the knife couldn’t get through. They were great at replacing the inedible steak. Very reasonably priced cocktails which was nice. For dessert the apple dessert was prefered over the bread pudding. It was a nice evening with a lovely restaurant week menu.

The place is overall odd. It is difficult to call it fine dining. The servers never stopped moving. They were overall kind. We did not hear the specials like other tables.
A ceaser salad upgrade to the meal is 13 dollars.
The oysters were not cut, so you had to pull them off whilst holding them.
The cheddar mac and cheese side was sub-par.
There is also a 6 dollar charge to use a credit card.
We could hear the kitchens entire drama and fighting. It was uncomfortable.
Also each time the door opens to the kitchen, a beam of heavenly light emits.
Really disappointed about a place that has been around for decades.
It was odd.

Had decided to go to Rowland as part of 2022’s October Restaurant Week for dinner. Went to dinner on a Saturday night around 8 pm and were not disappointed in the least. When we arrived (party of 4), we were quickly seated and introduced to our server, which gave us time to look over drinks. After making our selections, we were given time to chat and catch up with each other. The small plates were great, myself. I had a pork belly with chimichurri, and the sauce was more amazing than the tasty pork. For the main, I had duck confit with pumpkin ravioli, which balanced so perfectly. The only hiccup came during this when a tablemate was given the wrong dish. The server, when made aware of it, quickly corrected this error. The only real complaint was the close seating, and it was a little loud. Will 100% go back for a normal night!
