Rowans may very well be a hidden gem by way of the saying diamond in the rough. The atmosphere was interesting and eclectic and they have a nice outdoor area also. And though it is stated to be a bar it feels more like something lost between bar and more restaurant bar and grill. The food was good though and I was informed the kitchen is open late. The service was decent and fairly quick. Decent place to have some alone time with a significant other in my opinion as the few times I have been in there it generally was not very busy or loud. Prices are acceptable and are to me midrange for bar fare. They are definitely worth trying out if you are in the area.

One of the best burgers around. Made in a cast iron skillet is what I heard. No wonder it’s so good. I literally crave this burger.

The burger and fries are both so incredibly salty that I can barely finish them. Virtually all nuance is lost — the flavor is SALT. The fries are seasoned curly fries with *added* salt flakes. Thank goodness I got the burger sauce on the side because that would have been even more salt. Aside from that, the patty is also kind of small and overcooked for the price. Don’t recommend coming here for the burger unless it gets refined.
Also don’t love that all condiments are served in lidded plastic ramekins. Total one-time use waste when re-usable ramekins shouldn’t be that difficult to integrate because they do serve some things on actual dishes.
I did like the type of ice they use, so there’s that. lol
Overall, not impressed. Feeling like it’s not living up to the higher end vibe the area is going for.

Enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Rowan’s today. I had the blue plate special (fried chicken) with cornbread, butter beans, and brussels. Everything was delicious. Those were the best butter beans I have ever had- a touch of citrus maybe- I don’t know but they were incredible. The staff was attentive and friendly, and I loved the decor and atmosphere. I look forward to returning for a cold beer. Go check them out!

Service is hit-or-miss, which to me effects atmosphere, so I gave each only 3 stars. Staff is usually quick and efficient but often cold. It varies from friendly, to indifferent, to surly and if you are outside, nonexistent. I have yet to figure out an exact reason for my varied experiences, *except for Chad who is always the BEST*. My guess is the house is watching/measuring there every move and duns the staff for any unaccounted-for ounce and staff is constantly on edge. I know this though, once I discovered I was paying $10 for a glass of draft, even it was AndyGator 8%, I felt gypped. I can tolerate cold service much better at reasonable prices.
The beer prices overall seem steep to me. I guess they are pricing out the riff-raff. This riff-raff will be going elsewhere except on occasion.
I have no comment on food. I haven’t tried any yet. The offerings are too unique/fancified/expensive for my beer drinking palate but one day I will walk up there for a plate lunch and check it out.
Maybe I just can’t adjust to modern world. I’m the last of the baby boom generation and probably have different expectations than younger clientele.

Rowan’s is great. It filled a big hole in the Jackson bar scene. The food is great, awesome plate lunch, a real happy hour, and just all around great vibe. The bar is great and the place is comfortable if you are solo, date night, or with a group. They are always doing something fun to mix it up so give their insta a follow.

1 Guinness and Caesar salad with chicken added was $37. Charged $12 for the single chicken breast added to my salad.

Three tables outside had patrons, including our table with (4) people. We were there for over 3 hours and never once did the waiter/waitress come to our table although the other tables were well serviced. We had to go inside and order our drinks, no problem I get it, I suppose, then I/we were not acknowledged and had to “get the bar staffs” attention, ALTHOUGH we were standing right there and clearly visible. Nobody wants to have to ask a bartender for a drink as it comes across rude BUT dang there was not an alternative. Friendly suggestion, if you tell your customers they will be waited on outside then follow thru, if not please acknowledge the person/party member standing at the bar that you told would be taken care of outside instead of ignore them. My 2 cents.
