Rowan Coffee in downtown Asheville is the kind of shop that immediately signals serious attention to craft.

One thing that stood out to me right away: the barista pulling espresso shots while weighing each pull from start to finish. That level of precision is exactly the kind of detail that makes a coffee nerd like me smile. It shows they care about consistency and dialing things in, not just pushing drinks across the bar.

The shop itself has a really cool aesthetic — minimalist but warm — with a quiet corner vibe that makes it a great place to slow down and actually enjoy what you’re drinking.

I started with a cortado, which was beautifully balanced. The espresso came through clearly while the milk softened it just enough — smooth, rich, and exactly what a cortado should be.

Then I tried both of their seasonal drinks. Roses Are Falling (no mocha) was delicate and aromatic, with floral notes that felt intentional rather than perfumey. It was subtle, interesting, and really well composed.

I also had the Hello Ruby, which brought a brighter flavor profile and rounded out the experience nicely. Both drinks showed a lot of creativity without losing the coffee itself.

Between the precision behind the bar, the thoughtful drink menu, and the calm, stylish space, Rowan is a standout coffee stop in Asheville. Definitely a place for people who appreciate the craft behind the cup.

Don’t listen to the negative reviews. From a fellow coffee business owner in PA, this was a great cafe. Good vibes, great coffee, and pleasant service. The seasonal orange cardamom was delicious! Come here for real coffee, not just a sugary “coffee” flavored drink.

Absolutely worth visiting. This is by far one of the most unique coffee shops I have had the pleasure of visiting; the interior feels like a mix of a turn of the century old world apothecary with a european medieval flair aesthetic wise. I got a cortado on a cold fall day and it was creamy and tangy and delicious. The shop was packed but the service was surprisingly fast and efficient. The staff was also very accommodating and friendly.

Amazing coffee, service and beautiful pastries from local bakeries! Loved the decor/ design also. Felt thoughtfully done and somewhere you could spend a few hours catching up with a friend. Would return and highly recommend.

My husband and I quite enjoyed our morning coffees and pastries at the adorable Rowan Coffee. The staff is so cool and friendly and the vibe was amazing, calm, and queer friendly! We had an iced chai and iced matcha with a quiche and monkey bread. Everything was fresh and DELICIOUS! Will definitely be back when we are back in AVL.

I loved the location and look of this coffee shop, it was one of the recommended stops for coffee for us while here on vacation.
I was slightly disappointed in the attitude of the employees to start off with, I felt like the two questions I asked were to much for the guy taking our order as he had a really frustrated tone to his voice when answering and even avoided eye contact after turning around and saying something to one of the other employees.
After receiving the coffees the presentation was beautiful, but the taste was not there. I was off put walking in and not smelling coffee roasting, but we continued. We ordered a hot and iced coffee, BOTH had such a watered down taste to it and the brew almost tasted old. We went as soon as they opened for reference. I was not impressed with the flavor of the coffee or the attitudes of the employee who took our order. I would not recommend. There are other good coffee shops within walking distance.

Coffee was fine, but not great, and service was OK but not exceptional. Convenient spot and a nice quiet ambience if that’s what you’re looking for, but not the best around.

We came here with our kids and it was definitely not gonna be a good place for them given a pretty quiet environment so they mostly hung out outside.

We got a vanilla latte and a brown sugar latte, both of which were overly sweet, and a kids hot chocolate.

As our coffee excursion through Asheville comes to an end, we got our road coffee from Rowan. I’ve had most alternative milks but since they didn’t have almond milk,
I tried macadamia milk in my cappuccino and it provided a nice touch. Rich and smooth. They also do pretty milk art on the top of your cup, so you know you’re drinking a cup of love. I really appreciated the style and decor of this shop.
A must try when in town!

Rowan was a real treat while in Asheville. The coffee options were all impressive. The Rowan Drip was my go to. They source their beans with intention and integrity, too. Excellence in a Cup.
