Im visiting from out of town staying at VCU hospital with family, decided to try this place after seeing them on TikTok.
I ordered takeout, when I arrived there was no one in the restaurant so I just knew my food would come hot & tasty!
I checked my bag after leaving and noticed the yams I ordered was substituted with mac & then there were only 2 forkfuls of greens. I called the restaurant and the girl kept going quiet over the phone when I was explaining the incorrect order, I returned and asked for the Manager instead. The manger wasn’t there but they did bring me a fresh side of yams and when I asked for more greens they gave me more. The food was OKAY at most, the rice was very salty, greens and yams super sweet. The seafood salad was my favorite but for $12.50 I’m going to need a slightly larger container.
I try to give all small owned restaurants grace but we have to do better and take care of paying customers the FIRST time. People who order takeout should get the same level of service & food as those who dine in!

Oh. My. Goodness. I have been wanting to try Rose’s Kitchen for a while, and they did not disappoint! I ordered the Stuffed Catfish with mac n cheese and yams! Wow! Jam packed with so much flavor! The catfish was seasoned to perfection and the stuffing was divine. The mac n cheese was cheesy and the yams were so sweet and syrupy! I also ordered Alfredo Potato! I’ve never seen a potato so huge! This dish was also so delicious! The portion size for both items was enormous! Each item could be shared with two people. The food was also fresh and warm. I’m glad I was able to experience such delightful food! I highly recommend this restaurant! I would definitely try Rose’s Kitchen again.

Found this hidden gem. The food was amazing. We ate there yesterday and my husband went back today. The only thing I didn’t like was that they did not have everything that was on the menu. Both days I ordered the crab stuffed salmon and it was not available. So take it off the menu. Dont tease me.

I went September 23, 2025. They were very accommodating for our small group last minute birthday notice. The hostess was patient with us. Although they didn’t have a few of the things on the menu that some of us originally wanted, the servings we got more than made up for the differences. If you’re looking for cozy, different and personal environment, along with great food (soul food) this is the spot for you.

The jerk pasta w/chicken and shrimp is delicious. It also comes with steak as an option. It feeds 3 people!! I tried the lemon glazed blueberry cornbread as well! I’ll be back to try other dishes! The prices match the food portions.

The fish is on point at this place! We got stuffed catfish and the three pieces whiting and they were fresh and fried perfectly. The fish is five stars for sure. The stuffing for the catfish was good, but it was a lot. I would recommend it on the side. The tater tots were fried and seasoned well. Now, the Mac and cheese was a miss for me. Just missing creaminess. We got the blueberry honey glazed cornbread. It was very sweet and moist. Service was fast and friendly. Atmosphere was clean, good music, and there is dim lighting. I didn’t know it was a hookah lounge, so the strong smell of incense threw me off. If I’d have known, I would have been better prepared. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. Parking is in the back.

I usually don’t do reviews, but me and my friend have been on the hunt for a good soul food restaurant and this one she found was not at all what was expected. The restaurant was empty the young lady who waited on us was great. However, the food and prices were so unacceptable! $6 for a sweet tea that you can tell is not homemade and no refills on any drinks! I asked for water and got a $2 bottle of water… we both ordered the honey old bay salmon. They were out of most of the sides which this is the second restaurant we’ve been to that has been out of sides! The salmon was overcooked, the rice, Mac n cheese and yams were not cooked all the way they were all hard and flavorless! We were not pleased and when expressing our disappointment the owner offered to discount the food because we just did not want to risk trying anything else.. for the discount to only be $5! And we spent $100! We also ordered something to go and the fries were not not cooked all the way! Idk if the have more than one chef but the one that was there was terrible! Never again! Oh! And I wanted to try tge seafood salad which was on the menu for but the don’t serve it anymore !

They must be paying folks for the good reviews! Ordered the two lit fries shrimps overcooked Mac n cheese dry and tasted spoiled. The greens we have no idea where they came from we didn’t order. Ordered all flats got drumsticks burger was dry and flavorless. This was THE WORST experience. How you going to charge 15% gratuity and can’t even get service. We sat at the table 30 MINUTES not even offered a cup of water. NEVER got anyone to come take our order. We sat at the table and placed a to go order and IT WAS READY IN 10 MINUTES WTH?! Still had to wait another 5 minutes because they forgot our drink. If you know its a FRIDAY NIGHT you need more than 1 person taking orders, waiting on tables, doing the door dash orders
I WILL NEVER EVER EVER COME BACK here! No silver ware for the food no straws no napkins I PAID extra for blue cheese didn’t even get that! 93 DOLLARS STRAIGHT in the trash. I see why the other people left their food sitting right on the table and WALKED out because the food was NASTY! TABLE was sticky and needed a good wiping off!

That food was sooo good!! Literally some of the best food I’ve ever had. I went here after work with my coworker and needless to say I found my new favorite food spot! I got the stuffed catfish and she got the jerk chicken sub. 10/10 for both.

I’m sorry , I didn’t eat inside but I got the food doordashed, I got the shrimp po boy with Mac and cheese. When I say to much seasoning on both the shrimp was just pure salty , I think they used the most sharpest cheddar for the Mac I ever tasted. Then they drizzle some house made sauce that tasted like ketchup all over my shrimp that didn’t make it taste better it made it taste worst . Also the shrimp had so much breading that the shrimp inside was falling out and I was holding pure breading. Definitely not the best soul food spot in rva !
