Rose & Ivy – Sarasota
Our first visit to Rose & Ivy, and we were truly impressed. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Even though it was the coldest day of the year, the restaurant felt cozy and welcoming—exactly the kind of place you want to linger.
The building itself is historically enchanting. Be sure to visit their website to read the fascinating background on the building—it adds an extra layer of appreciation to the experience.
There are so many great options on the menu, it was hard to choose. We started with the Crispy Beef Spring Rolls and a Sushi roll. Both were outstanding, and we’re already looking forward to returning to try more appetizers. For our entrées, we had the Kung Pao Shrimp and the Korean Bone-In Pork Chop—both were incredibly flavorful and beautifully prepared.
What really set the evening apart was the hospitality. The owner took time to visit with us, and the chef even gave us a behind-the-scenes tour, which was such a special and unexpected touch.
A fascinating building, extremely delicious food, and exceptional customer service. We can’t wait to return.

Rose & Ivy in Sarasota, was an absolute treat. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance captured me — the ivy-covered exterior, elegant indoor decor, and cozy courtyard patio created a welcoming yet sophisticated atmosphere. The food was truly outstanding. Every dish we tried was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Overall, Rose & Ivy delivers not just a meal, but a memorable dining experience. Whether for a special occasion or a casual evening out, the combination of amazing food, and atmosphere makes it a must-visit.

This place is an absolute hidden gem! We came for a girls’ night out and were treated to the full experience—live music upstairs, phenomenal service, and sushi that truly blew us away. Having lived in Japan for four years, I don’t say this lightly: the sushi here rivals some of the best I’ve ever had. Every detail was thoughtful, every dish beautifully crafted, and you can feel the passion behind the food. If you’re looking for incredible sushi and an unforgettable night out, this is the place.

Okay, recommend for atmosphere. Food was good, atmosphere was the most fun with statues and plants.
Service was just okay, on slower relaxed side, had to call over waiters on occasion.
Overall just okay, I recommend but it is not a favorite, do not think I will go back.

So, overall a cool place, hip vibe, interesting food choices and food presentation. My photos tell the story. While the manager ( owner?) was present, I felt like our table was on the back burner by the server, who spent more time flirting with the 2 ladies nearby instead of our table of 7, which would have a large tip automatically included bc of our group size. For an upscale place, they might train their staff to earn their tips. I will, however, give this place another visit to see how things are going.

Great quality sushi in Sarasota has been difficult to find. The search is over! Chef Ace at Rose and Ivy is a master of the craft. He is constantly coming up with new sashimi and nigiri combinations. The rolls are great but nigiri is where he shines. Last nights offering was salmon belly with finger lime caviar. Beet cured aged salmon and an o-toro that literally melted in our mouths. Do yourself a favor and get there to see Chef Ace asap. Props to our very professional server Juan. He made the experience very special.

My wife and I were in downtown Sarasota for the opera and we had not made any dinner plans. Adjacent to the opera house we found Rose & Ivy and decided to try it out because it had an eclectic menu with Asian food, sushi, as well as steaks and traditional dishes, and it was in a great location. Even though it was crowded and we didn’t have a reservation, they squeezed us in to a hidden “speakeasy” area upstairs and it was fantastic. You go up a tiny, hidden stairway into a brick lined space with an ornate ceiling and a full sushi bar as well as a wonderful full alcohol bar! We decided on small plates and had a “Rose and Ivy” salad, a plate of gyoza, and my wife and I each had a sushi roll (8 pieces). Fantastic meal and perfect before the opera. This was the best sushi we have ever had, and we lived in Japan! It was so good and just melted in your mouth. My roll was tuna and mango and it was absolutely delicious. We also had two of their signature “Oak and Ivy” cocktails which were extremely good – strong alcohol but very well balanced, exactly how a craft cocktail should be – with elderberry, hibiscus flower, vodka – man it was good! I’m so sorry I don’t remember our servers name but we took care of her with the tip, because she was excellent. And last but not least, a nice meal there did not completely break the bank. It’s not cheap, but it’s a great value for a very high quality meal. We’ll definitely be going back!

….. we sat down to a partially filled restaurant. It was my first time here. When they sat us, it was directly behind the host stand. I asked if there was somewhere we could sit. It was my anniversary and wanted a more romantic vibe that was trending on social media but the gentlemen stated they were booked. Walked around to see the social media hype and it was still partially filled outside which was beautiful and upstairs which was a better vibe. I get holding tables for reservations but first come first choice my man! Our meal was basic and not very well executed for the hype but the drinks were pretty and the music was reminiscent of San Francisco lo-fi. When we left same tables were still empty. Nooo do not recommend

My first experience at Rose & Ivy and will definitely be going back. Went for a birthday dinner, and the service was excellent. I loved the atmosphere as a chic downtown vibe. The king crab sushi roll and crispy shrimp tempura were the BEST!
