Past strip malls and bustling thoroughfares on the outskirts of Rancho Santa Margarita is a narrow road that winds to Trabuco Canyon. The drive from suburbia to Rose Canyon Cantina & Grill takes long enough to make you feel like you could be lost. Just as you begin to look anxiously for opportunities to make a U-Turn, a little sign off to the side of the road reassures the thirsty that the cantina is just around the corner.
Closed on Mondays, a colorful cantina for Mexican eats & margaritas plus a patio canopied by trees.

Made reservations for a party of 10 on Sunday afternoon. No problem with the reservation but we were told 2 hour limit for being sat. Now we stayed 2 hours and 20 but no one made a fuss. Plus there were still tables available so maybe they were cutting some slack. We were greeted right away and sat immediately. The waitress was very attentive and came over right away and got us water while we waited for the rest of the party. Everything was clean and the patio had a nice atmosphere. Our food once it was all ordered came out hot and together. Over all the food was good, the birria tacos had good flavor but Def wasn’t traditional birria, no sauce to dip in ?? The cilantro rice was moist and had a good flavor. The pescado tacos were good and had good flavor. Finished with a fried ice cream and you can’t go wrong there.

first time here! incredible atmosphere, specially seating outside, as the creek had a lot of water due to the rain in California in 2023. Old trees wrapping around the fabulous deck. Inside is just fine. Food was good as well as the Margaritas. Definitely a super nice Mexican spot nestled in the nature of Trabuco Canyon.

Great Mexican restaurant with an oak tree covered patio. We have been coming here for years. Daniel is the best server. He’s been there for 20 years. Make sure to make a reservation if you want to be on the patio.

The food is so good here! My wife and I recently left California for Colorado and in my opinion Mexican food outside of Southern California just isn’t as good. Rose Canyon Cantina & Grill puts a different spin on traditional Mexican food but they do it in a way that works. The flavor, the presentation, & the outside atmosphere all blend together to make an evening very enjoyable with family.

We share the Chile Verde burrito, and it is the bomb. The pork is so tender, and we always want to have more of the potatoes that they cook with the pork. It is almost a contest, but we win anyway with the burrito.

Gorgeous setting with rock garden and waterfall, festive patio dining OR cozy indoors. Peaceful, off-the-beaten-path location. The food was outstanding, and the cocktail perfectly balanced. The salsa is honestly the best I’ve ever eaten, even in numerous trips to Mexico! Memorable dinner.

The servers and atmosphere of the resturaunt were great, only problem was that the food was honestly very mid. I had the chicken fajitas and maybe it was just a poor choice, but I asked what the server recommended and he chose that. Especially for $22, was expecting something of a much higher quality.
