Her service truly made the visit special. The food was delicious, the place was clean, and the service was outstanding. Highly recommend visiting, and if you’re lucky enough to be served by Ranju, you’ll have an even better time!
This large restaurant, with its completely empty and overheated second floor, may not survive.
Whilst the flavours are good, the poor service (for anyone who is aware of such things) and the often disproportionately high carb to protein ratio in the meals bears testament to the fact that most eateries are desperately trying to sustain themselves by stiffing their customers in order to pay Kingston’s rumoured excessively high business rates.
When I arrived on a freezing night, I explained I was early and waiting for my other half and asked if it was possible to me seated. The restaurant was probably a third full. I asked if it was possible to have a glass of wine as I waited and the lady who led me to my table acknowledged this. I asked her again when I sat down. About 25 mins later she came over and asked me what I wanted and I ordered a glass of wine. Then my partner arrived and another couple after him. We had decided on our food and put our menus down and then the same lady came and took the orders from the couple next to us first. Eventually someone came and took our orders.
The ‘cosy’ seating might appeal to Northerners but being up close and personal with your peers appears to appeal less to Surrey folk as was demonstrated by the grumpy faces of the people we sat next to, the women of the couple looking my partner disdainfully up and down when he seated himself. Although this is not the restuarant’s fault, I have definitely noticed over the years that the people in Surrey are less friendly than in, say, cosmopolitan London or the folk in Brighton or Portsmouth or the North of the UK. I wiuld gently suggest that close knit settings in restaurants in Surrey probably are not what many people in this area like (although we ourselves are pretty friendly).
Whilst the ground floor of the restaurant is subjected to drafts from the front door (be warned if you are someone who feels the cold if you attend in winter months), the (empty) second floor was reminiscent of balmy Thailand in its temperature. It was quite a surprise!
The Thai have such fabulous musicians, pity they didn’t play any Thai pop or classical music.
