Decided to try out Rosa’s at random when I needed a meal. went with the Nailed It (Prego) & I rarely get sandwiches that are this simple.
Let me tell you, it was delicious. Meat was cooked exactly as requested (medium rare), toppings were well cooked & of good quantity. & the gravy was amazing. I read reviews & they were glowing but I’m always hesitant. Half expecting it’s friends or regulars leaving courtesy reviews. This was not that.
They also called me letting me know they ran out of my side & let me pick another. very courteous. unfortunately my replacement house chips didn’t travel well, but I half expected that.
I will be ordering again.
EDIT: went back as promised and tried the Mozambique with jumbo shrimp. Frickin’ soo good!

We’ve been to Rosa’s Tavern in East Providence twice now with passports from RI FOOD FIGHTS. First time was for the Sandwich Showdown. The chicken parm was good, the fries were good, but walking in felt like crashing someone else’s family reunion. If you’re from the neighborhood, you’re golden. If you’re not, you kind of felt it.
This time was different. The service was welcoming. Helpful. Like they were actually happy to see us there.
Rosa’s does Portuguese and Italian with what they call a modern twist. Family owned by local townies on Waterman Ave in East Providence. Small room, black chairs, ceiling fans spinning, TVs on the walls. Not fancy. Not trying to be.
For Lord of the Pies, they offer four flatbread-style pizzas. We got the margherita and the meatball.
The meatball was the easy winner. Good sauce, well-seasoned meatballs sliced thick, cheese that did its job, and a flatbread crust that hit all the right notes. Crispy. Chewy. Flavor in the bread itself, which is rarer than it should be. Everything worked together. This was a nice little pie.
The margherita missed. Bright red sauce, fresh mozz slices, but someone back there buried it under dried basil. You couldn’t taste anything else. And they stacked the slices on top of each other when they brought them out. The cheese stuck to the pieces on top and got carried right off the ones underneath. Who does that? Fresh mozz doesn’t survive stacking. Basic physics.
The flatbreads fit the menu. Rosa’s is a Portuguese and Italian spot doing things their own way. The meatball flatbread could hold its own against their steaks and Mozambique dishes. Skip the margherita, though, or ask them to go easy on the basil and plate it flat.
The vibe was much better this time. Maybe it was the server. Maybe it was us with a camera crew. Either way, it felt more like the family they promised us on their website. Definitely come see for yourself.

From the moment we walked into Rosa’s Tavern, we knew we were in for a treat. The service was truly excellent, and our server, Toni, was an absolute gem. She was so friendly and welcoming that we instantly felt like part of the family—it made our evening incredibly enjoyable.
We decided to make our meal an appetizer tour, and none of our choices disappointed! The calamari was a standout, perfectly tender and bursting with flavor. The clams were also fantastic, cooked just right with a wonderful texture. And let me tell you about the shrimp in the shrimp Mozambique—they were huge and cooked to perfection. Even the mozzarella moons, a classic, were great.
Here’s a pro tip: definitely ask for the Mozambique sauce for dipping with your mozzarella moons instead of the marinara. While their marinara is delicious, the Mozambique sauce takes it to a whole new level!

I need to be honest here. When I seen the ratings and reviews I thought wow here is a place that I haven’t tried yet and after looking at the menu I was like wow prices seem reasonable and menu is all stuff I like. I thought to myself this could be my second home lol. Anyway I took my kids here and just giving an honest review about my experience here. The bill was definitely more than I would have liked like myself and 3 kids so needless to say was pricier than I thought. Now Portuguese food ( which I grew up with all around me every 2 feet) and Italian foods are my favorites. So seeing the menu here I thought wow best of both worlds. Has reservations at Alive but cancelled to come here cause my reservations were a little too late for our liking but unfortunately that’s all Alive had this night. Also have heard great things about Alive and it has a similar style menu so I’ll be there next time. Anyway just being honest here when I need to ask for bread 3 times at a restaurant which at any real Italian or Portuguese restaurant is just an automatic given that is a bit weird I guess but then came the food. Food was absolutely sub par to say the least. This place can’t be serious for the amount of money they charge. Everything from the atmosphere to the service to the food was not good at all. Just a strange experience and I have eaten at many places and this is not it. I’m sorry but this place needs major change all the way around. I know you shouldn’t go by reviews alone and here is a perfect example of Reveiws being deceptive. If people think this place has good food then they haven’t been anywhere good. Cracks me up. Anyone of the Portuguese restaurants in East Providence nevermind Fall River are way better period. Highly disappointed. Had high hopes I guess for this place after the reviews and looking at pics and the menu. Sad.

Amazing!! The food was fantastic! We started with Mama C’s Fried Meatballs. Delicious! Chourico peppers and onion was out of this world. Chicken Parmigiana sandwich was so tender it melted in your mouth. The menu is one that needs to be explored and will be. It’s absolute must try and you will be back!!

No soup of the day on a rainy Friday around 3pm the bar tender waitress blamed the cook, and honestly, I almost busted out laughing the way she did. I tried the shrimp mozambique, mozzarella moons, and the burger that brought us there. One burger was OK the other not so much, the shrimp mozambique was horrible tasted like everything come from a frozen bag, the mozzarella moons were delicious and the sauce was OK but I thought it was soup and laughed to myself saying soup of the day tomato soup. The place has potential the cook needs to put love into the food or place just needs to switch to a full bar with bar foods like fried foods and popcorn machine, please don’t disappoint another person with chef Mic-wave food.

Our first visit. My wife and I went in for lunch. I had the house steak, and she had the Chicken Mozambique. We had the soup of the day, which was chicken noodle. The soup was great, full of flavor and savory. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium as ordered) with superb flavor in the rich, bold sauce, with just the tiniest bit of heat, which was a nice touch. The Portuguese style steak beats out all the other ones I’ve had in East Providence. Perfect thickness potatoes and buttery carrots. The chicken Mozambique was great, full flavor and savory. Definitely come in and support this establishment. You won’t be disappointed. We will be back!

This is the sort of place I want to be a regular at just for the great atmosphere and conversation our server created. And then you also get to enjoy the food! We didn’t try anything fancy, just pizza/eggplant/chocolate dessert, but my sister and I definitely want to come back to try more of the Portuguese options! I had a lovely dinner here on a Friday night. I had the RI food fights coupon for a Chicken Parm sandwich – it was excellent! Flavorful sauce and cheese with perfectly cooked chicken and side of fries. My server was welcoming, and the singers were incredible and also friendly. Good selection for drinks too. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu!

Great neighborhood establishment! I go to Rosa’s at least once a week for the delicious food and stay for live music or karaoke. I have a few favorite dishes ( chicken Marsala, shrimp Mozambique, and Cod) however, it is a treat when they have a special. Extra treat if the owner Chef Steven prepares it. Had Chicken Milanese on special and it was phenomenal!!! Chicken was light, crispy and juicy, topped with a bright fresh salad, served over creamy white beans and sauteed vegetables.Top it off with a lovingly prepared espresso martini from Toni the bartender….perfect dinner!
