Social Profile:

Our menu is composed of small and big plates, featuring a variety of hot and cold dishes. While our food is absolutely delicious, the concept of ROOTS is actually not only based on the food, it’s based also on the company you enjoy it with. While the Latin culture values its cuisine, another iconic symbol of the Latino way of life is sharing. Sharing memories, laughs and long conversations with friends and family, sharing a “Salud” over a glass of wine or one of our unique drinks, and sharing a plate of something scrumptious for all to enjoy. Salud y Buen Provecho

The place looks simple at first. Not many people at 7:30 on weeknights. But within 5-10 minutes it got busy. The server was very pleasant and the service was fast. The menu is very long and detailed. I recommend you see the menu before you go there. It could be overwhelming. We ordered Lomo Saltado (beef and rice). Beef was excellent and of very good quality. My husband got fish tacos. He was very happy with his choice. Then we ordered Tres Leches cupcake. It looked great. But the milk didn’t have enough time to be absorbed by the cake. We ate it and enjoyed it anyway. Highly recommended and definitely will go back soon

We enjoyed a unique meal here that was full of flavor and authenticity. Our server was friendly and efficient, and service was quick. We dined on a Friday in the late afternoon — our receipt was time-stamped at 5 PM, so before the dinner rush.

Our biggest frustration was that the menu at the restaurant didn’t match what was posted online. We had already picked out what we wanted to order in advance, only to find those items weren’t available on the menus we were given.

To be fair, we didn’t ask our server if those online items were still available — we were simply too tired after a long day of travel and didn’t feel like making a fuss.

We ordered & shared the Pork Arepa and the Tostones Sampler. Our favorites were the Mango Tostones (a standout!), followed by the Pork Arepa and Pork Tostones. The shredded beef Tostones came in last for us, but were still tasty.

While we aren’t fans of the strip mall restaurant setup (it always feels a bit like dining in a storefront) and the bench-style wall seating wasn’t the most comfortable, the food made up for it.

The only real downside was the sticky floors, which are always a bit off-putting.

That said, the food was good enough that we’d return if we find ourselves in Springfield again.

If you haven’t experienced the phenomenal cuisine at Roots Latin Grill, you haven’t enjoyed the best Latin food in the Midwest! Having moved here from the Chicago area, I’ve eaten at countless restaurants with international influence, and take it from me, you will love this food! Check them out soon, and tell your friends. Their reviews speak for themselves!

The food was just amazing! We loved Tostones the most and the Garlic Shrimp. We were traveling and came across this restaurant while searching the web for the best places to eat in Springfield. Worth going there!

What a genuine pleasant surprise to find this level of quality in Springfield, as a Mexican man owns his own restaurant, I know exactly the amount of prep work and dedication it takes, to have not only the presentation on these beautiful dishes? But the level of quality and outstanding taste.

Originally, only came to try that tostones and empanadas, but ended up trying several different dishes. One of my favorite was a chorizo salad. Finally something unique in springfield.

Absolutamente, se los recomiendo familia, si son de México o Centroamérica? Por favor, no dejen que se les pase este restaurant

The atmosphere was nice. The Menu is full of authentic dishes from south America and latin America. The Peruvian ceviche was quite good and tasted fresh. I was fairly dissapointed in the serving size and the fact that the dish is traditionally served with discs sweet potatoe, had sweet potatoe listed on the menu, but dish came with a tiny brown mini boiled potatoe. Totally not the same thing and not what the menu advertised. Also it’s traditionally served with giant Peruvian white corn. Also on the menu. Also not in my dish. The white fish and lime juice and onions were good but it was missing half the ingredients that make it Peruvian ceviche that were also on the menu.

It was OK. Easily the best thing on the menu was the plantain steak sandwich. If they held the other food to that standard they would get 5 stars. My fries were pale, but my brothers were golden and crispy.

The yucca fries weren’t crispy and the arepa was mid. It was pretty expensive, I literally just ate the week before at a Latin restaurant downtown NY for a lot cheaper.

The staff was very friendly, but definitely lacked knowledge about the food. But very friendly, non the less.

Has potential

A couple months ago my wife and I were in Springfield, IL and, just by chance, found Roots Latin Grill. I had the Lomo Saltado for dinner, and it was delicious!

We were back in Springfield recently and had lunch at Roots. We had two cheese Tostones and a beef Tostone for starters. The cheese Tostones were very good, but the beef Tostone was great! For our main courses, we had Pincho (marinated steak, fantastic seasoning, stuck on a skewer, and grilled) and Camarones al Ajillo (garlic shrimp).

Both items were very flavorful and delicious! The servings were generous and ample. Service was excellent.

Lunchtime was not crowded, and we were seated right away. On the other hand, the place fills up for dinner. Get there early for dinner or make a reservation.

The food is excellent, flavorful, and well prepared. We’ll be back in Springfield and will definitely head to Roots for a meal. Highly recommended with two thumbs up!!!

Truly “Latin American” food! The menu features favorites from a variety of Latin American countries including Bolivian, Argentina, Brazil and Perú. All the foods served to my party of 7 looked and smelled great!
The atmosphere is pretty laid back but still has table service. The restaurant is dimly lit with dark walls, creating a cozy atmosphere. Keeping with the broad “Latin America” theme, the artwork does a fine job featuring maps and photographs from a variety of cities and landmarks.
It was a little pricey, but I would be willing to go again, especially for more Peruvian food.

We had an excellent experience here last night. We arrived about 7:30PM on a Saturday night, just as the evening crowd was finishing up. We started with the empanada sampler which was divine. The beef and chicken Argentinian empanadas were exquisite, with savory seasonings that made the the meat sing. The guava and cheese empanada was great
