What a charming place to stop for a meal – menu is pretty big, and I was tempted by a lot of dishes, but it was a soup kind of day. I had the French Onion soup and it was delicious. Seriously geat. My friend had the homehame chicken noodle soup. She said it was delightful. I had the iced peach and mint tea and loved it. They have nice desserts – we just got a piece of chocolate each. Nice little gift shop to the left inside the restaurant. Staff was super friendly and owner was wandering around speaking to everyone there. Very personal space. Will go back there, for sure.

Had lunch here a couple times and finally leaving a review! Highly recommend to anyone who needs to find a place that is vegan or dairy free! Staff is very informative of their menu items and what is in them and very accommodating on dietary needs especially for allergies. I had a dairy free sandwhich and it was delicious! Before that I had a amazing grilled cheese that was dairy free, check it out for yourself if you are vegan or dairy free/dietary restrictions.

Roots Café and Giftique is the nicest little spot in East Greenbush. For years it was the Country Trunk and I never got a chance to go. I was meeting my cousin for her birthday and we decided to try Roots. Well, not only was the food great but the service was wonderful also. Our server was Melanie and she was excellent and so attentive. What a little gold mine in East Greenbush. If you’re looking for a quiet little quaint place to have breakfast or lunch I highly recommend Roots Cafe!!!

Very cute cafe! Owner was super nice and personable. Waitresses have great personalities! Food was great and tasty. Try the Skiiers Delight. Enjoyed our breakfast so much that we returned for lunch after our bike ride on the nearby Electric Trail!

The words charming, adorable, and quaint all fit this café. I was out and about in East Greenbush and googled what was near by and i decided to take a chance. I was not prepared for this wonderland of a place. The decor was so out of box and yet it fit perfectly. Two thumbs up to the owner for coming up with such a creative place to have a quiet brunch. Thank you for your attend to details and your personality. I can tell you put a lot of heart and soul into this place.

I found this place through Local Flavor and the voucher that is offered, and since my friend and I were biking on the Albany-Hudson Electric Trail, we decided to stop and check it out. To say we were pleasantly surprised by how nice this place is would be an understatement! They have an extensive breakfast and lunch menu, and everything is very reasonably priced. Plus, the service was some of the best I’ve experienced, with our server being very nice and stopping by pretty frequently to make sure we had everything we needed! The food came out pretty quickly as well! We went at first for breakfast, and both got the Skiers French Toast, which was absolutely delicious! Since we were very impressed with the place and the service, we stopped on the way back for lunch as well, where I got the Pilgrim’s Sandwich (served hot or cold, with turkey, cranberry sauce and stuffing and a gravy dip), which was again very delicious! While we did not have much time to look at the giftique, it appeared to be pretty nice, with a good selection including quite a bit of little gifts and items with an upstate New York theme. If you are in the East Greenbush area, I would definitely recommend paying a visit here! Great service, great food, and great atmosphere! Will definitely be back there again!

This place is a hidden gem. The food is flavorful and the staff is incredibly hospitable (even for fussy infants) Great for lunch dates, grab and go or getting some work done.
The french onion soup is amazing — I’ll be back for more.

I have been frequenting Roots since it opened and as a degreed chef and pastry professional it never disappoints! There was a comment from someone named Paul who said that it was “good but a bit pricey” !
I was shocked at this observation on his part, he obviously has never run an eating establishment nor has he purchased food in my neck of the woods in Connecticut! Or even nearby Hudson NY for that matter! Quality of product and impeccable service costs are very high however Roots prices are what one would expect in this area for a memorable meal and are not “pricey” imho. They are just and fair prices for both the diner and owner of this excellent establishment!
