Welcome Home. You see that written on a door mat or maybe it’s said with a tight hug and loving embrace when you walk back in the door from being gone for a while. For me, it is coming back to my Roots– my hometown, my alma mater university and to my original restaurant I opened as a 22-year-old in 1996. I’ve come back home and now I’m welcoming you into my 2nd home, a 2nd time. And, now we have grown to Indianapolis and Carmel. Come enjoy scratch cooking from our American comfort food kitchen. We want you to kick back, smile, enjoy yourself and let us do the work. See you soon. Scott Wise, Founder, Roots Burger Bar

We arrived and there was a 20-30 minute wait which was fine. The hostess was slightly distracted by their friends coming in and out. So it delayed things a little.
There was someone else’s trash in our popcorn bin.
Our server Owen was great. Very polite and working hard to serve his tables. He made sure we always had refills and anything we needed from the kitchen.
The tots and fries were great. The chicken fingers were good too, but some parts were just breading and kind of chewy. The buffalo chicken wrap lacked flavor, it felt wet? The lettuce was kind of saturated. I asked for a side of Nashville hot to give it some better flavor. There was a giant slice of un melted cheese in the wrap, so it just kind of fell flat. The burgers were decent. Our daughter had fruit with her meal and in her fruit bowl there was a tater tot (buried and cold) and a random vegetable, like a radish. It felt like maybe it had been sloppily thrown together.
Came at around 11:15 AM on a Thursday and they weren’t that busy so we got a table. Our waitress was very nice and attentive to our table. I started out with the cup of chili as an app. That was pretty tasty!
I then got an order of potato skins and the Nashville hot wings as my meal. I was all around impressed! The potato skins were cheesy and were delish. Now the wings… wow I definitely underestimated them! They were way hotter than I was expecting and definitely cleaned out my sinuses. But they still tasted great and the ranch on the side was tasty too!
Overall, quite surprised with Roots! If you’re in Carmel, it’s worth a stop! I’ll be back.
The food was decent, but the service was very disappointing. There were three servers working, and the only one who truly stood out was the gentleman in the red shirt. He worked incredibly hard, apologized to customers for the delays, and even helped us with popcorn refills for our kids — even though he was not our server.
Unfortunately, our actual server checked on our table only once and seemed to have an attitude. When I asked if our food was ready so we could get boxes and our check to go, the food eventually came out cold, as if it had been sitting for a while.
I understand places get busy and short-staffed, but a little communication or updates — like the other server provided — would have made a big difference. Because we were there with two young kids who don’t have the patience to wait that long without updates, we probably won’t be coming back.
