Roots in Princeton has decent food, but the overall experience is fairly average. The service was okay-ish—nothing bad, but not very attentive either. The restaurant itself is quite simple with no extra vibes or ambience. We tried the ramen bowls and Pad Thai, and while they were fine, the flavors felt more blended and muted rather than distinct or bold. It’s an okay spot for a casual meal, but nothing really stood out.
Plenty of parking is available as it’s in the strip mall complex.

Kai and Jessica were amazing. They were incredibly warm and attentive and made sure we were well taken care of from the moment we arrived. The food at Roots in Princeton was super delicious. Simple dishes yet packed with so much flavor.
The Singapore noodles, spicy miso soup, unagi bowl and shrimp mango sushi were all outstanding and truly the highlights of our meal.
It is a must visit place for families.

Overall good food and flavors (though on the lighter side). Taiwanese brisket noodle soup had delicious broth. Pan seared sea scallop was buttery and lived the eggplant and veggies that came along with it – I have had better scallops in the past though. We also tried the mandarin suzette and it was wonderful! Also appreciated the beautiful plating

Roots is a great Asian spot right outside of the heart of Princeton. The ambiance was really nice and all of the food was delicious. We ordered the pork buns, scallion pancakes, filet mignon with purple rice, and Thai basil chicken over rice. Although the appetizers were small, the pork buns were some of the best I’ve ever had! Overall, the food was great (with the exception of volume) and I would come back to try some of their other dishes.

It’s unfortunate that I’m leaving a low review for a place that had such amazing food…. I visited this location recently and ordered the drunken noodle dish which is clearly labeled as “vegetarian” on the menu. Unfortunately, I discovered that this dish contains fish sauce. I had an allergic reaction to the food and called the following day to confirm that although the dish is marked “vegetarian” it had “just a little bit of fish sauce” (the staff person confirmed). When I mentioned the menu had the meal incorrectly labeled, I was told that they recommend customers disclose their allergies at the start of an order. I agree with this. However, my reaction wasn’t due to a cross contamination error…. My reaction was due to a meal being clearly mislabeled. If you have food allergies, or abstain from eating animals for ethical reasons, please use caution when eating here. I was not offered a refund for my meal. I missed a day of work and I’m out the cost of a copay plus the cost for my prescription medications I now need to take for a week to deal with the hives. I want to mention that I was incredibly lucky that all I’ve had to deal with has been hives- because I usually experience an anaphylaxis response when I eat fish. My hives extended to other areas after I took the attached photo. I had them on a thigh, my forearm, my stomach, and I had them the worst around the right side of my face- eventually around my right eye. The food was good, the wait staff as great, the atmosphere was great. The nonchalant attitude of the people I spoke to on the phone after my exposure and the fact that the food was mislabeled is why I left them a 2 star review.

Came in for lunch, ordered the drunken noodles with chicken and am order of pork buns. Both were delicious and freshly made. Service was quick and the food was brought out quickly as well. Highly recommend.

I recently visited Roots in Princeton upon a recommendation from a friend, and we both went for dinner. We arrived around 7 pm, and though the restaurant was moderately busy, there was plenty of seating available. We were seated comfortably at a table for four. The ambiance was decent, with a quiet and relaxed atmosphere—perfect for a casual dinner with a friend. It doesn’t scream luxury, but it’s inviting and comfortable.
For drinks, I was about to order a Coke when my friend suggested trying their fresh juices. I opted for the fresh carrot, celery, and ginger juice, while my friend went for the pineapple, green apple, and ginger juice. Both juices were incredibly fresh, cold, and delicious—a refreshing start to the meal!
The menu had a variety of unique options, and while I was figuring out what to order, my friend, who had been there before, suggested a couple of dishes. We chose the Thai Basil dish, stir-fried with vegetables and rice, seasoned perfectly with basil and spices. The second dish was Lo Mein, a stir-fried noodle dish with vegetables. Both dishes were superb, and we shared them between us. The flavors complemented each other well, and the food was truly outstanding.
One of the highlights of the evening was the incredibly friendly and attentive service. Our waitress noticed we ordered vegetarian dishes and thoughtfully asked if it was okay to use fish oil for the stir-fry. We were really impressed by her attention to detail and appreciated her asking, to which we replied no.
After dinner, we stayed for quite a long time, chatting and catching up. There was another group dining a little further away, and at one point, we asked what time they closed. To our surprise, we were told they had already closed! The staff had been so polite and considerate, never rushing us or making us feel like we needed to leave. It wasn’t until we noticed the waiters and waitresses having their own dinner at a table that we realized how late it was. We left after finishing our long chat, feeling very welcome and appreciative of the friendly and polite staff.
Overall, it was an awesome dining experience. The food was flavorful and fresh, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. I highly recommend Roots if you’re in Princeton and looking for a place with delicious Asian-inspired cuisine and exceptional service!

I ordered the mango prawns and on my second visit, I ordered the kimchi fried rice with beef. Both were delicious. I thought the mango prawns did not need the sweet and sour sauce with it. It made it too sweet. The kimchi fried rice with beef was quite tasty. It wasnt too spicy. Like a soothing spicy. The place is quite spacious to bring a big group. Parking is shared parking lot with other stores.

The menu is widely spread, food is good, what did not tick for me was the service.
Felt it was a bit sluggish and slow. Also the way the staff interacted was not polite.
Food they serve is fresh, yummy and tastes great.
I will definitely try the place again.
