An unexpected surprise, we were headed to A fast food joint and saw Root Down Depot and made a u-turn to try it out. This food truck style eatery was fantastic. The had a wonderful menu of local food – we chose a burger and fries. We weren’t disappointed. We had a craft soda to go along with our lunch. It was delicious!

The BEST burger I have had in ages! Ben does a wonderful job. Great location and the food is delicious. He grows most of his own produce, buns made locally, local beef, local sodas (try the sassafras soda!), really just a great lunch!

We are from out of town and got recommended this place as the “best burger for miles” and let me just say – it did not disappoint. Incredible flavors and for a very reasonable price. The owner was super nice too. Will definitely be coming back to this spot if we’re ever in town again.

We motored up from Asheville just to verify if what others have said about the breakfast burrito and burger – and they were wrong – the food is a 6 out of 5! Everything about Down Root is perfect, right down to the heirloom tomatoes and the farm fresh beets. Will be back!

Truly a must stop destination in Burnsville. This quaint family-run food truck with a great outdoor space has the best burger in Western North Carolina in my humble opinion. I also highly recommend the grilled cheese on sourdough add egg and bacon attached as a photo of that sandwich. It’s life-changing. I love that it comes with a side salad that’s fresh with the majority of the ingredients being grown on their family farm or very local. Ben and family are a joy and I feel good about supporting them and what they bring to our community.

Burnsville’s best restaurant. I feel like their vision and flavor profile is so crystal clear, that if you did a blind tasting of their food against anyone else’s in town, you’d be able to identify it in 2 seconds. Their menu generally consists of 5 or so items, which means their one chef/cook (sorry i don’t know your name dude!) has had the ability to continuously perfect each item. The breakfast burrito and burger always satisfies. Their specials are always worth trying (the new breakfast fries are wonderful). Their new location rules, and it’s hilarious it’s next to the McDonalds. They have the best STAIRS in town also (see pic). The gift shop has a bunch of local wonders. Their merch is lit. Go here. If you go here all the time, go more.

I’ve been a big time fan of Ben, Brianne, and Root Down ever since my parents moved down to NC a few years ago and couldn’t stop raving about the breakfast plate. After stopping there every time I came down to visit and loving not only the food, but the heart behind the farm, it only seemed natural to reach out to see if they could cater my husband and my wedding this fall.
Let me just say – as someone with a background in the wedding industry, my husband and I experienced the best wedding meal we could have asked for. The time, attention to detail, the FOOD, the people – everything was incredible. We feel so lucky to have had them be a part of our day and wish we could eat our wedding meal over and over again. Everything was beautiful, local, and full of flavor. They were flexible and accommodating to our dietary restrictions. They ultimately helped bring our vision to life and made us feel cared for and helped to make our special day just that much more special.
Ps – go to the depot on Fridays and get the fries. You won’t regret it.
