Root 12 Bar and Grill opened on in late November, more than two years after the brothers first bought the property at 29284 U.S. 12 in Sturgis.

The place is beautiful! I had the shrimp basket it was very good! Thought there would be more shrimp..
My fiancé got the pork burger and the additional grilled onions, bacon, lettuce and tomato. The onions and bacon were completely black and no tomato. It took 30 mins for the meal to come out..waitress seemed to be spread too thin. Drinks were quite a wait as well.

We rented the upstairs for a birthday party and unfortunately had a very poor experience.
Appetizers took about 45 minutes to arrive, and my cheeseburger basket didn’t come out until over two hours after ordering. Two guests ordered steaks (medium rare and rare) and both were served well done. The broccoli sides were unseasoned and still quite firm.
I’ve also included a photo of two beer pitchers we were served — one poured several glasses while the other only filled about 2½ glasses, yet both were charged the same.
The biggest issue appeared to be staffing and management. One young server was left to handle roughly 30 people by herself, taking orders and carrying food upstairs 2–3 plates at a time. She was clearly trying, but the operation was not set up for success.
The space has potential, but the execution needs serious improvement.

Server was wonderful but was alone during the lunch rush. We had to wait a long while but the taste was phenomenal. The loaded bloody mary was delicious and reasonably priced! It was a meal or an app all on its own! Quite a few items came put cold. The beer cheese was the star of the table!

Would give zero stars if I could. Five of us on a Sunday, two of which were kids. Dining area not busy at all. Took over 45 minutes for our food to come out. One order of Fried mushrooms as appetizer took over a half hour. Food finally came, at about the 50 minute mark, with the fries being COLD on two of the three meals. One adult cancelled their order as it was revealed right before food was served that there was no rice for the veggie stir fry meal (the only vegetarian option) …kids “nachos” are chips and cheese. That’s it. Nothing else. Not even salsa .Had to ask for steak knives for the steaks. Salad for one meal came AFTER we were half done eating. When we informed our server that our fries were cold there was no sorry, no “let me fix that” or “I’ll take it off the bill”, just silence. Two steak dinners, one boneless wing, and one kids chips and cheese. Two sodas. $72.00. And one of us left without eating. 0/10 stars. Highly do NOT recommend. (also. Found out after that it’s the guy who owns The Dude who bought it). I suggest he stick to cannabis and let restaurant people do food things. Very disappointed. Bar was busy with people drinking though. That seems to be the draw. Will not go back and sadly, can’t even recommend anyone go there. Too many other good food options in Sturgis.

It’s a new place but been here a few times and always enjoy stopping in. No one really notices me here and it’s fairly busy offering 3 pool tables and darts. They play good music, It wasn’t as busy my first time and I had to try to find a place to try to dance but there lacked room. The second visit I saw they had removed one so I had hopes of a dance or performer area coming in, but the last time u was there the pool table was back because I guess people go there to play billards. Unfortunately I go alone and can play by myself at home. So now I go mostly for drinks and food because it’s a good meet up if you know someone but not to meet new people in my opinion.

Friends told us that the food was really good here. At best, it’s OK, nothing special, limited menu (which is fine), place has been repainted and updated with new tables and booths. If you’re in the area, stop in for a good meal, but we won’t be making any plans to visit just for the food.

Finally decided to try this place out. I’ve heard mixed reviews… honestly, One of the worst experiences we’ve had in a long time. Appetizers took an hour to get to our table. Main course took just as long. We even had to wait a good 15 minutes (for a to go order) after we paid. Most of the food was ok.

Have been there twice. Good.today it was not good. The waitresses were having trouble remembering what we ordered. We can hear the other tables were having trouble to. My sweet potatoes fries came cold. Asked for a fill up on water. She never did show until giving us the bill. Hope the waitresses read this . They know you you were. 2.26 2026. Thursday. They were not busy. Every table had a problem with their food. I’ll go back maybe summer. Hope they get new help and a different cook. It wasn’t good.
