Ok food, noticed small bones and chicken not cut all the way.

Compared to other locations, this restaurant is one of the smallest of this chain. They have four seats and a bathroom. The broth is flavorful but pretty salty. The rice has the same flavor as the broth. The poached chicken doesn’t have a strong flavor but it comes with a delicious sauce.

I noticed small bones in the chicken. If my order had been served to a small child, it would’ve been a choking hazard since at first glance, it appears to be boneless chicken. The slices of chicken weren’t cut all the way, so it made eating a little bit of a hassle. If the people at this location took more care with their chicken, they would’ve gotten more stars from me.

I’m a huge Rooster and Rice fan, and I get their food frequently at other locations in SF.

BUT this specific one at 1 Stanyan St is not good. The chicken quality is noticeably worse than the other locations. Even the way they cut it is bad. And they seem to give less of it as well.

If you work there, and you’re reading this, just get the same order from this location and the 125 Kearny St location, you will immediately see the difference.

My husband and I visited Univ.of San Francisco. We stopped by this restaurant. The food is so delicious. The chicken is tender and juicy. I love the sauce. The service is great. Nice to find a good dining place.

Food is just as good as any Rooster and Rice, they are super fast and the staff is friendly. We love coming here and picking up lunch on the way to Golden Gate Park.

So glad for this location. The chicken porridge or Khao Tom Gai is my new favorite. So delicious on a cold windy SF day. I just wish they made a slightly bigger size. For $9 for a bowl I could eat two of them easily.

The folks working here are always kind. Just wish whoever owns this franchise would have cash in their till for people who want to pay and tip in cash.

Simple yet tasty food. Portion was so big I haven’t finished it and made fried chicken rice next morning. Surprised they meal comes with bouillon which was super flavorful.

Their broth is amazing! I come here for that and a healthy meal. A little expensive and it is a bit plain but it’s healthy and honestly sometimes you just need your protein so you need chicken. The people that work there are sweet. Parking can be tough but sometimes you get lucky.

For Roster and Rice – Stanyan location.
I had bad experiences here.
First time, when I paid the to-go order with no tip, the staff showed some bad reactions/attitudes. I thought I was a little sensitive, so I gave it a second try.
On the second try, I ordered a few to-go orders of the Original without tip again to see if I got the same treatment, but got all skinless options.
Now I’m not surprised why this location is rated lower than the other locations. Never want to try it again.
If to-go order is expected to be paid with tip for a good treatment, it then becomes an obligation to have tip for to-go order for good treatment???

First thing I noticed was how bad the place smelled. I almost turned around walked out.
Service was fine, nothing special, but I didn’t experience rude staff like other reviews.
Food was meh. The pieces of chicken I got were basically tiny and the bad parts of a rotisserie chicken. You’re paying almost $19 for boiled chicken, white rice, 1/2 a cucumber, and 2oz of sauce that goes on top. Sauce was good, but honestly I’ll skip this place and save my money next time.
