Food was amazing! Best potato soup, especially soaked up with some bread. Chicken was juicy, proscuttio was crisped to perfection. Firecracker shrimp was delicious.
Our server Chad was serving several tables at the same time but maintained such a calm demeanor. Very smooth, and had a great personality.
Also the restaurant itself was beautiful. Loved the chairs. Also enjoyed watching the open kitchen.
The best part was everything wasn’t perfect, but when it was brought to management’s attention it was addressed professionally.
Special thanks to Katrina, Assistant Manager, Roost, and Carol, Hyatt accounting!!
Update: The manager (Dan) contacted me and the situation has been resolved. We were compensated for the for the extra fees and gifted with gift certificates to dine again. Thank you Dan for reaching out and resolving the issue.
My wife and I have made the Christmas Day buffet at The Roost a tradition for well over six years. It’s something we’ve enjoyed with friends and, in years past, even with our mothers when they were still with us. Unfortunately, this year’s experience will be our last.
At $55 per person, the value simply was not there. The food quality and overall selection felt more like (and in some cases less than) what you’d find on a cruise ship buffet — but without anywhere near the variety. There were multiple potato dishes, yet only one green vegetable (asparagus). The prime rib I was looking forward to was overcooked, which was disappointing for a featured item at this price point.
The breakfast offerings were oddly executed. The bacon was very good, but the sausage was another story — it looked as though it had been taken straight from the package, barely warmed, and piled high in a bowl. It was unappetizing enough that I didn’t even try it.
The salad bar was also a shadow of what it used to be. There seemed to be more fruit than actual salad components, with very limited vegetables (onions, cherry tomatoes, and a small amount of carrots). The dressings were thin and runny, and even a basic, thicker option like Thousand Island wasn’t available.
Some of the other items felt out of place or poorly executed — the fried rice, for example, was cold and lumpy. Desserts looked appealing but, unfortunately, fell into that familiar category of “looks good, tastes disappointing.”
That said, I do want to be clear about the positives. The service was very good. Our server was friendly, attentive, brought clean plates promptly, cleared dishes efficiently, and made sure we were taken care of. I genuinely appreciate the staff who worked on Christmas Day — that’s not lost on us at all, and we tipped accordingly.
However, goodwill and tradition can only carry an experience so far. For the price being charged, the food quality, execution, and selection simply didn’t meet expectations — especially compared to prior years. Sadly, this breaks a Christmas tradition for us, but we’ll either find somewhere else open on Christmas Day or start making our own meal at home.
I truly hope management takes a hard look at this experience, because this used to be something special. Unfortunately, this year it just wasn’t worth it.
We had a reservation for 8 people and our table was not ready until 10 minutes after our reservation even though the restaurant was barely half full. No big deal, stuff happens.
Drinks and apps were good and our first course came out quickly. The potato soup had great flavor but was a bit grainy and could have used a pass through a tamise.
Our entrees came out when we were only halfway done with our first course, meaning they were somewhat cold by the time we got to them which was unfortunate. In addition, the food runners did not know who to deliver the food to and given the already full state of the table, service was a bit awkward.
Desserts were excellent and had great presentation.
Before the end of our meal and well before closing the staff started to shut down the dining room, turning off table lights, etc. Felt like we were being rushed out of the restaurant.
This place has potential but front of house needs a refresher on standards and proper service.
