Nice little hidden sports bar, really good food, burgers, sandwiches, salads, pasta, pizza… our server was great, and as a guy that worked a lot bartending and serving when I was younger, I could tell our server was new. But this was fine. He did a great job, and was up front about not knowing everything, perfectly owned it and still got answers for things we asked that he didn’t know. He’ll be really good in near future because he has a great attitude. Nice bar for watching sports with friends. They have a great menu and there’s something for everybody. We’ll be back soon!

My Friday tenderloin group visited this establishment with high hopes of a quality loin per the description and pricing evident on the menu. We were shaken to our cores when we were informed that there were only 2 tenderloins available for our 8 person group. We conferred many options including cutting the 2 tenderloins into 4 pieces and having slider versions or pivoting to a different eatery. We concluded that if we couldn’t all have the loin to judge none of us would. The menu looked good and there were options that everyone could be happy with. Unfortunately when we received our meals they ranged from poor to mediocre. There didn’t seem to be a lot of pride put into any of it. 2 of us ordered burgers medium and medium well and the condition of the patties made it seem like the cook had a vendetta against the cow and wanted even it’s offspring to be well done. Props to the establishment for issuing a 30% “Fall discount” but unfortunately that merely changed this from one of the worst restaurant experiences to simply a bad one. Prayers this mainstay in Waukee can return to its apparent former glory.

We showed up hungry, and luckily a booth opened up during a busy time during the NCAA Basketball Tournament. It was a Rowdy place. The waitresses did a great job considering how busy it was. Food was good pub food, and I enjoyed the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. Sue was impressed with the size of the “side salad” with added chicken. The competition for the Television broadcasts made it hard to see the game we wanted, but we adjusted. Beer was cold and varied selections were available.

Kitchen closes at 11pm? That’s what we were told. We asked for a drink menu – the waitress told us we could look at her hand held device that she orders things on….. like what? We just opted for something simple since the lady couldn’t even tell you what they had which didn’t sound to be much anyways. The staff sits at the bar on their phones. The place looks rough, run down and the tables are loosing their finish so much so I almost got a splinter! We had our one drink and got out of there, we will not go back.

Stopped by tonight for the BYO Burger and BBQ beans. Great service and attentive staff. Food was served very quickly considering they had a good crowd. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a Sports Pub with full menu options.

Checked out Rookies for the first time tonight after checking out their website. A much bigger space inside than expected! We were greeted and served by Will. He was hospitable and regularly checked in on us which was appreciated. I had the Philly cheesesteak sandwich with micro pub fries and slaw. My wife had a salad. We both thought the food was great and would be an awesome place to watch games with all the TVs throughout the bar. Recommend checking this sports bar and restaurant out! Looks like they have specials listed every day on their website.

One of our favorite places! Friendly staff, great food, cold drinks, and local! Last night I had the patty melt with onion rings ( yes the thin breaded ones…yummy) and it got the spot! Everything was fine exactly the way I wished it. Thank you Rookies for being our favorite spot!

Our son suggested we meet him for lunch at Rookies. When we pulled up and parked we were apprehensive. It was a typical strip mall sports bar. We ordered, me the Prime Rib Dip and my wife got the Reuben. Our son ordered a chicken wrap. OMG! The food was amazing and unlike most establishments it came with two sides included in the price. My wife loved her sandwich and it was obvious the corned beef is made onsight! My sandwich had plenty of meat and a rich, tasty au juice to dip. Our son loved his wrap. He got side salad and it was the size and quality of a main salad at most restaurants and the croutons were made in house! You have to eat here! Now!
