In addition to the Ropa Vieja, we enjoyed empanadas, pastelitos, and café con leche flan — all flavorful and satisfying. Just note that the food is served in disposable containers instead of traditional plates.
Overall, we had a pleasant experience and plan to return to try more dishes.
The food I had here was a nice change up from the fast food in the area, but it is not on the same ballpark as the Cuban food I am use to. Minced pork on bread is not me. Missing flavor too.
On the expensive side.
Service was ok
Tucked into the corner of the Cedar Springs shopping center, this quaint little slice of Cuba welcomed me in. The moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by the rich aroma of warm bread and a medley of seasonings. The atmosphere was vibrant—bright colors adorned the walls, Cuban music played in the background, and homemade tables invited guests to dine in.
At the counter, a young woman, who I later learned is the owner’s daughter, greeted me warmly after finishing up with a customer. As I placed my order for a Cuban sandwich, we struck up a conversation about Cuban cuisine and our shared love of cable TV dramas. Before long, my food arrived—a small bundle of pure decadence.
I have to be honest: having never had a Cuban sandwich before, I don’t have a point of comparison. But if this is the standard, then I pity any sandwich that has to follow. The pork was incredibly tender, the mustard added just the right touch of bitterness, and the tangy crunch of the pickles brought it all together in a perfect balance of flavors. And the bread—crispy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside—was absolute perfection.
I’ll definitely be coming back. Supporting local businesses is important to me, and I truly hope this family’s venture thrives for years to come. Next time, I’m trying the plantains. Overall, a 10 out of 10—the service was fantastic, the wait time was reasonable, the flavors were outstanding, and the value was great.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some Dexter episodes to watch.
