This Hungarian restaurant is so delicious and super cute. I was in Budapest last year visiting the Christmas Markets and their menu includes some of my favorite foods from that trip (and the markets). I went with a friend and we got the langos and mushroom+polenta starters (SO good!). It was Monday, which is the schnitzel special night. We split the eggplant version (I’m a vegetarian) and between that and the apps we were stuffed. Great portions and I love that they have good vegetarian options. Can’t wait to go back! We spent about $50 each (with tip) covering three plates of food and cocktails. Desserts looked amazing but we were so full.

Overall enjoyed this restaurant. Came for brunch but would like to return to try more savory dishes. Pancake was huge and not overly sweet, can easily be shared. Crepe was tasty but for my taste had a little too much color and wasn’t as tender as I like my crepes. Gnocchi was very tasty.

As you walk in you know you walked into a special place. We sat at the chef’s table and WOW so glad we did. It was like watching a perfectly choreographed dance with the chef. The service was excellent. The food was OMG, I can’t even think of the best words. It the kind that you can’t eat anymore because your stuffed but yet you can’t stop eating because it’s so good. I will definitely be going back sooner than later. Compliments to Chef Rolan and his incredible team!!

Great surprise. We heard the place was great, but to be frank – menu looked as if was a bit all over the place with Hungarian and European standards. I also don’t like to be charged separately for bread. But. The waiter was friendly and welcoming. Cocktails were superb. Bread was great! Firsts – Onion soup, Goulash, anchovy toasts, crockets were great. Sides – we tried all types were great. Beef Bourguignons with mash potatoes, steak, and cod were good. Deserts, and especially baked Alaska were gorgeous. Overall – good to be so positively surprised – we’ll be back! Great addition to the New Haven restaurant scenery.

The Chef’s Tasting at the counter was an incredible experience. Sitting right by the action made it so much fun to watch the bustling kitchen and anticipate which dish was coming to us next. I’m usually indecisive when it comes to ordering, so leaving the menu completely in the chef’s hands was the perfect choice. I can’t wait to return to explore their different weekly themes, and I’ll definitely be back for another tasting when the seasonal menu updates.

Always appreciate new restaurants opening up in the New Haven area. The atmosphere is beautiful and the staff is friendly. The indoor bar is a cool look also, and outdoor seating is welcoming. The apps were delicious and can be shared with a party. The cocktails were unique, and even the mocktails were delicious with their homemade syrups. However where this place fell short is the entrees, I thought they were just ok. The food is on the pricier side so I had higher expectations for the steak, lamb, and chicken, but all 3 were just okay and nothing unique. Truthfully I would come here for drinks and smaller plates next time I visit, including the oysters.

We went for their Hungarian night, which as of now is on Tuesdays. As someone who went to Hungary almost every summer as a child to visit family, I’ve always missed Hungarian food in the US. Even good Hungarian food is very hard to find where I’ve lived. Hence, I was so happy to find this place. They make things a bit differently from what I’m used to, but still “magyaros” and “hagyományos,” just with a bit of some fine-dining and personal touches from the chef, which were welcome. For instance, never tasted that much köménymag (?) in a gulyás, and they may have toned down the intensity of garlic I’m used to on lángos. Nonetheless, these are quite subjective, and the food was still quite flavorful, delicious, and fulfilling—just what I was looking for. I’m looking forward to trying other Hungarian offerings in the future if they switch things up!
My favorite dish was the csirkepaprikás—they nailed it with the flavors and texture. Lángos and fánk can often be too oily for my tastes, but these were perfect without sacrificing the flavor. The apricot jam and the powdered sugar on the fánk were awfully nostalgic for me and reminiscent of the baked goods I’d had frequently in Hungary.
Really, all of it was delicious. This was the first time my girlfriend ever tried Hungarian food, and this place left an excellent first impression.
The ambience inside was interesting and alluring—sort of higher energy for dine dining, yet with the lighting perfect and some elegance. The service was decent, and the waiter and waitresses cut to the chase with their questions and communications.
Will definitely come here again, maybe for their schnitzel night. Gratulálok a szakácsnak!

We had our anniversary dinner at ROLi tonight and it was just a beautifully magical night. The food was incredible, the service was top notch, and the atmosphere was a dream. You know you’ve found a new favorite spot when you are already planning on coming back before the bill even arrives. The Baked Alaska was incredible!

ROLi is quite the experience in New Haven! Good quality food & ingredients (nothing too over the top but that’s how I like it!) with something for everyone. It has a classy interior with a mix of low-top, high-top, and bar seating. I especially really like the assortment of gin drinks on the cocktail list. Service could have been a bit more attentive & friendly for a place like this but that’s OK. I definitely plan on returning to try more of their menu.
