We ate at Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ during opening weekend of Chief’s in April 2024. As such, the restaurant was packed but we were still able to grab one of the last few tables around 5:45pm on Saturday evening on the rooftop portion of the restaurant outside.
Food overall was very good. We ordered the Pork Skin Nachos with pulled pork and the Prime Brisket Plate with baked beans and cornbread. Nachos were a hit and fun with the pork skin twist. The brisket was excellent and definitely the winner of the plate. The baked beans were fine (a bit too smokey in some bites) and the cornbread was good.
Service was a bit slow, but it was opening weekend and a Saturday on Broadway so nothing we didn’t expect. Great experience overall and fun, delicious addition to Broadway/downtown Nashville with a great view.

Everything we ordered was delicious. We did get kind of confused when ordering the sampler, as it appeared we’d get a little bit of everything. But it was plenty of food. Started with the burnt ends and followed up with the ribs and the famous whole hog pulled pork. We had mac and cheese and greens for sides.

Amazing! I’ve been to Martin’s and Edley’s and they’re both overated. Rodney Scott’s is THE ONLY place I would recommend for Southern Barbecue in Nashville!
Brisket seasoned well
Definitely can taste the dry rub
Not very tender
Macaroni and cheese was the real deal
Even the pasta had flavor!
Somehow both cheesy and creamy
Perfect cheesey crust on top
Corn bread was warm
Buttery
Airy
Not too sweet
Tasted like grandma’s
Southern Barbecue Sauce was good portion sizes are good better than most places in Nashville
Live music
Chief’s is a small bar with limited seating but I think there’s more seating upstairs
ID required to enter at the time of evening I went. $25 A little more expensive than other Southern Barbecue restaurants but this is the only one I would recommend
Would return

We had a pulled pork sandwich and hot chicken tender sandwich. I assume the idea is we use the bbq sauce on the table but all 3 sauces were very liquidy and not good at all. The hot chicken sandwich was definitely better than the pulled pork sando tho. Our server was very nice but drunk old people yelling at 1pm made it hard to even talk to each other. I know the drunk people aren’t their fault but it didn’t make the experience any better.

I was real excited to visit this place because I love the Food Network and I faithfully watch barbecue brawl and Rodney Scott is not only a judge, but the contestants always seem to be worried about cooking for him because of how amazing he is supposedly. The atmosphere here was amazing, especially the first band that we saw, wish I could remember his name. We ordered the burnt ends the chicken nachos, macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. The burnt ends were amazing. The barbecue sauce was so sweet and delicious, the chicken on the nachos was done really well, and the chips seemed like they were possibly homemade, however, the cheesesauce that was poured over it was not enough… They definitely should have put a layer of chips down then a layer of chicken and sauce and then another layer of chips and another layer of sauce. The macaroni and cheese would’ve been really good but it had no seasoning, no salt, no pepper, so it was somewhat bland… Coleslaw was good, just a basic coleslaw you can never go wrong with.

Located inside of Eric Church’s Chiefs on the 3rd floor. Everything was great, we only stopped for a quick appetizer. It’s not a huge place at the restaurant specifically. So it was a little crowded. I do think you can order from other areas inside of Chiefs if you’re looking for a different atmosphere.

The ribs were significantly overcooked and dry.
The potatoes in the potato salad were hard.
We expected a lot better.

Hidden on the 5th floor of Chiefs, this place is definitely worth the visit. The pork plate is fantastic and the sides are delicious. Prices are good.
The people there were really great, and they even gave me a tour of the smokers. Everything is made in house, making it pretty unique in a world of pre-packaged restaurant food.
Highly recommend if you’re kn Broadway and not looking to spend a lot on a fancy meal.

The burnt ends were so tough. Had to pry them off of the stick. Mac and cheese was hard and crusty. Pulled pork was dry. Probably the worst bbq and worst meal I’ve ever paid for.
