We recently visited Rodney Scott’s BBQ, a newer location that has opened alongside several other restaurants in the area. We’ve been looking forward to trying it, especially with the buzz surrounding this spot, so expectations were understandably high.

A fair warning to anyone planning a visit: this is North Carolina–style barbecue. Most, if not all, of the sauces lean heavily on a vinegar base, which is very different from the sweeter or smokier Southern barbecue many people are used to. While the meat itself was well cooked and tender, it didn’t have that deep, smoky flavor that I personally associate with traditional Southern barbecue.

That said, the atmosphere was excellent. The space is open and inviting with plenty of seating, making it a comfortable place to dine in. The staff were overly friendly, welcoming, and genuinely appreciative that we gave the restaurant a try, which always goes a long way.

While I don’t know if Rodney Scott’s will be my first choice when I’m craving barbecue—especially since I tend to prefer places like Full Moon—I am glad to see it here. It brings something different to the local food scene, and variety is always a good thing.

I truly hope this location thrives and finds continued success. If you enjoy vinegar-based barbecue or are simply curious to try something new, I definitely recommend stopping by and giving Rodney Scott’s BBQ a try.

Best Collard Greens I’ve had and I can only say that because my grandmother will never read this. . The BBQ is also excellent of course. The restaurant is clean, new, and the service was spot on. Valley Post dining experience is great all around.

if i could give it all 6 stars i could! it was absolutely amazing this was the first day they opened and it was amazing! the food was delicious. We have been waiting and waiting for this to finally open and it finally did! The staff was friendly, fast, and had that “we care about your experience” attitude that makes a place feel like home. They didn’t just bring food — they brought joy. Kate was our waitress and she was so welcoming and so kind!! thank y’all all sooo much!! this was amazing! it was our first time coming but definitely won’t be our last!

This is my third time eating here and all three times it has been a great experience. The Ribs, and brisket are my favorite. The Ribs have a perfect bark with just the right bite. The potatoe salad and baked beans are my favorite. The Rodney sauce on the ribs is amazing. I think I could drink that sauce. It’s hard to decide between every bite to eat them dry or add sauce they are so good.

This place is absolutely amazing, especially considering the volume that they do! Each side is homemade, as are the sauces!
If you don’t like vinegar based sauces, you may complain, aside from that everything is insanely delicious.

Grand opening of the Chelsea location of Rodney Scott’s BBQ is excellent! The food, atmosphere and service were fantastic. While the initial weather was stormy, that didn’t impact their excitement or delivery! Our family enjoyed the Turkey Sandwich, Brisket Sandwich, Loaded Tots (baked potato), Southern Pulled Pork Sandwich, Hush Puppies, Greens, Mac-n-cheese, Ella’s Nana Pudding and the Apple Pie. Oh my it was all amazing!
We HIGHLY recommend the Brisket. The bark was excellent. The pulled pork beats any in Birmingham. The Turkey was thick sliced and will head you to tryptophan comma. Everyone raved about the Mac-n-cheese… can we find THAT recipe?
The Nana pudding was a great treat to top it off.

South Birmingham / North Shelby County and Chelsea has waited a LONG time for such a great restaurant. What a fantastic rebuild of the former Treetop Family Adventure location.

Well done Pihakis Restaurant Group for bringing Rodney Scott’s, Hero Diner, Luca and Lucy, and Little Donkey to Chelsea. We look forward to many years of eating, celebrating and gathering together at this beautiful addition.

This restaurant checks all the boxes when it comes to service, food, atmosphere and so much more! Natalie took our order and made us feel like we were family! The manager Will was amazing and went above and beyond. I will definitely be back real soon.

Great new for area restaurant.
I had the Rib and Whole Hog combo with Mac and Cheeae and Baked beans. The Mac and cheese was nice with lots of cheese. The baked beans where delicious as well with a nice smokey flavor and just the right amount of sweetness. Now for the meat. The Ribs where juicy and delicious alone, but with the Bama 16 sauce they where perfect. Tne whole hog pulled pork was great with Rodneys Carolina sauce. I will definatly be back.

I am at work, so we ordered from here I had a Catfish sandwich. The flavor of the sandwich was good. The fries had a good seasoning. But for the negative, I ordered it without tomato (was not on it) but the piece of lettuce was 1 single piece about the size of lemon slice and wilted (threw that away), there was about the size of a nickel of tartar sauce on the bottom bun and no extra sauce in the bag. So now I have eaten a dry sandwich. I understand new location, but this was a pitiful display of the quality for a $13 sandwich and fries.

Rodney Scott’s BBQ at Chelsea’s Valley Post is awesome. Great atmosphere and music makes you feel like you’re in 50’s or 60’s restaurant. The food is delicious, I had the smoked wings and they’re probably the best I’ve ever had. Really good selection of sauces I would highly recommend 🙂
