I’ve dined at The Rocket Cafe several times to explore different items on their menu, and overall the experience has been inconsistent.
Service is very hit-or-miss. You might get a friendly, informative waitress, or someone who seems to have an attitude. The menus also appear to be outdated — I asked for the Italian pasta as a side and was told it was no longer available, even though it was still listed.
My husband ordered a mushroom burger, and we didn’t realize they charge extra for a single slice of cheese until we received the bill. That kind of pricing detail should be clearer upfront.
Food-wise, I honestly think pizza and Italian dishes are where they shine and should be their main focus. Many restaurants in Gallup already serve burgers, wings, burritos, and enchiladas, so it would be nice to see this place lean into what makes it different. Burgers aren’t cooked to customer preference, and the sandwiches lack unique flavor beyond basic mayo. It also took about five minutes for staff to confirm whether bread could be toasted — something that should be a simple yes-or-no answer.
Prices feel high for what ends up being mid-quality food. The gelato, however, is excellent and is probably the one item that truly sets them apart from other restaurants in town.

We had an excellent lunch. The spaghetti was really good and the wife’s chicken salad was good too!! We enjoyed our lunch!!

My friend had told me about the breakfast they have for $7.95!!! I was thinking it was going to be just a plain burrito with nothing else but I was surprised to see refried beans and potatoes, smothered with cheese! every time we order cheese, they charge us extra, but don’t put the extra cheese. Also, the green and the red had a good taste to it and enough seasoning. It wasn’t bland. It was a 10 out of 10, but we wish it open sooner for those who go to work early are able to stop by and pick up there order. usually for a plate like this we pay $20 and you don’t get no beans or potatoes. This is awesome so stop on by if you’re nearby. My go to from now on!!!

46th anniversary dinner. We were promtly seated at a table. The atmosphere was nice and the restaurant was lovely. I had the italian soda, which was wonderful. Our waitress was great! We ordered fried zucchini for an appetizer, which was ok. My hubby ordered a cup of tomato florentine soup, which he liked, and shrimp linguini, which we make at home frequently. I had a side salad and asked for tomato because it was plain packaged greens. I also ordered eggplant parm, which was pretty good. The shrimp linguini, however, had HUGE chunks of uncooked garlic. The garlic was completely raw, and there was alot of it. He never complains, so I didn’t realize it until we got home with our doggy bag. Maybe the cook needs to be taught to cook the garlic? I have a photo, but can’t figure out how to post it.

Ordered a bacon cheese burger was the nastiest tasting burger I have ever had. Couldn’t eat or finish. Would not serve to my dog. I rather stick with a fast food burger. Zero stars if there was an option.

My daughter won Gift Certificate and that what took us to Rocket Cafe 🙂 ,the waitress took our order we ordered Rocket Hamburger w/fries, Rocket Hamburger w/sweet potatoe fries,coffee & soda drinks. Waitress was nice,polite. ,I most definitely will eat there again. Check the place out folks 🙂

This place has it going on. Ate there some this week and my only complaint is the chicken in the chicken parmesion pasta tasted like fish. And it also had a lot of excess water in it and the side salad that came with it is pretty basic, mainly lettuce and no toppings. Everything else I’ve tried was very good.

Usually order out, rocket burger is my favorite, good portion of fries, but I wish it came with to-go drinks. Staff is always friendly and fast. Inside looks great, looks like plenty of seating and clean restrooms.

I’m allergic to olive oil and the cook was very accommodating with my request to cook my shrimp in butter instead. It was delicious! My boyfriend enjoyed his Fish and Chips.

Aug 2025 – A very disappointing experience with my “Specialty Sandwich” on “Artisan bread.”
First of all, it took 30 minutes from ordering said sandwich to leaving with it. Thirty minutes. That doesn’t include the 10 minutes I had to wait for 11 am to actually order it.
The actual sandwich was disappointing. The “Artisan” bread is just sliced regular bread. The bacon and avocado were there, I guess.
I will say the sweet potato fries were good.
The cheese enchiladas with green chile were okay. The chile was spicy but bland and just chopped. There are places in town that make a great chile sauce, Rocket Cafe is not one of them. They don’t serve hashbrowns, but they have cut potatoes. They also did not make my over-easy eggs well.
It was an interesting breakfast, but it was nothing great to come back to.
As a New Mexican restaurant, the menus should have the proper spelling of “green and red chile.”
