Great Food and Potential, but Communication Needs Work
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
I’ve been a long-time visitor to Rock Creek Family Restaurant, and I wanted to share some honest feedback following the change in ownership. There is a lot to love, but also a few logistical hurdles that make it difficult to be a regular customer.
The Highlights
• Improved Quality: Since the new ownership took over, the food genuinely seems better. It’s clear there is a focus on quality in the kitchen.
• Great Atmosphere: The staff is very friendly, and I’m glad to see they’ve kept the warm, familiar atmosphere that makes the place feel like home.
• Engaging Socials: Their social media presence is excellent. I love seeing the menu variations and daily specials posted there—it definitely catches my eye!
Areas for Improvement
Despite the great food, the ordering process can be quite frustrating. Today, I was placed on hold for 20 minutes. After hanging up, I was unable to get back through for another 10 minutes because the line stayed busy, making it seem like the phone was never properly hung up on their end.
As much as I want to support this local spot, the inability to place orders online or pay via card (in certain instances), combined with the difficulty of reaching someone by phone, makes it hard to commit to a meal there.
Final Thoughts
Rock Creek has the potential to be a phenomenal go-to spot for both dining in and takeout. If these “tiny” technical and communication issues can be smoothed out, it would easily be a 5-star experience. I really hope to see these updates soon!

Jake’s is cash or check only. This is good to know before you go. It has a family atmosphere. Staff is super friendly. My family and I go to Jake’s at least 2x per week. They close early on Mondays, at approx 2pm. Even though they are normally open until 9pm, their kitchen starts to shut down at 8pm, so get there before then. We like the chicken, salads, burgers, battered home style fries.

I heard it’s under new ownership. Hopeful this place will improve. We ate 1 time years ago. It was filthy. We did not feel welcomed. We were stared at like we were aliens or something. RUDE staff.

For what it is and where it is Jake’s Family Restaurant takes the cake. Local decor with a history and decent food. Fast friendly service. Daily lunch specials are super quick.

Horrible service. All I can say is I miss the old Jake’s. Set there for 45 minutes with no food got up and went to the restroom when I came back to my table it had been cleaned off. I never got my food.

Jakes Family Restaurant is a unique and quirky representation of almost any small southern town. Yes, they will probably talk about you and likely will poke a little fun, but it just shows how much they like you. They aren’t necessarily keen to newcomers and out-of-towners, but if you return more than twice, you might get to sit at Table #8 to offer the latest news, philosophical approach, or ingenious solution. The people who patronize the restaurant are from all walks of life and represent a cross-section of society and culture. Uniquely situated in a rural area, its decor and “Wall of Local Heroes” gives it charm like no other restaurant. The restaurant doesn’t have a flashy facade or a glamorous sign, but it’s warmth of its people, food, and family set it apart from most. I also enjoy the battered home fries, COB (Chicken on Bun) with special sauce, and a Jake’s Special. I miss the salad bar but love the special weekly event of Thursday Night spaghetti. There’s a beauty about the place and offers a simple perspective of nostalgic reminiscence. Go by and enjoy Jakes. Stay there an hour or two and experience what I shared. Tell Ms. Vivian hello and if you come back a few times, they might invite you to Table #8 to soak in some local philosophy. A great little place with simple charm and quirky decor – Jake’s Family Restaurant.

Food was great, staff was very good and friendly. We like the new remodel.
They still only take cash or checks, but they do have an ATM on the premises.
