Roberts Pizza and Dough Co, Streeterville, Chicago, IL – Reddit

I don’t get over there much, but Robert’s is a good, solid pizza. It would comfortably be considered one of the greats in most other cities.

To those of you who are tourists, you need to know first and foremost, this is NOT Chicago style deep dish pizza. It’s woorfired hand tossed pizza. And that’s actually a good thing.

There’s a lot of hype around this place due to the number of awards they’ve won and the number of “Best Pizza” lists they are on. So, there’s almost always going to be a sizeable wait if you just walk-in. Get a reservation instead.

Is the Hype real? Yes.

The crust has a good crisp to it and the tomato sauce is light and breezy with just enough flavor as to not overshadow the ingredients. Sausage is some of the best in the area. Pepperoni has a very nice snap and a satisfying zip. Mushrooms are fresh and understated. Black olives have flavor without the lingering brine taste that you get from a jar.

Service was fast and friendly. We ordered our pizza and had it at our table within 10 min despite the place being packed to the hills with diners.

They do have a number of standard cocktails on the menu. I would avoid those and instead look to their drink specials which seem to be made with more care and have more flair.

It’s a pricey experience, but well worth the cost.

Excellent mid-sized pizzas. We ordered the “Carne” and the “Walk in the Woods” pizzas with gluten-free crust. Both of those choices had riveting flavors, distinct and delicious. The gluten free crust was perhaps the best we have had. In our experience gluten free pizza crusts are generally not that great. This was great. We thought it had the right combination of crunch and doughiness. Our only critique is that the $4 extra charge for this kind of crust seemed a bit excessive.

The restaurant itself seems very nice and has good views of the canal. The takeout window is just down the hall from the entrance. The canal location puts Robert’s slightly off the beaten path. We ordered take-out and were close, so we walked there. As a result, I am not sure what parking would be like. The staff was responsive and quick. Everything was ready for our pick-up ahead of time.

We have eaten a lot of great Chicago pizza over the years. Robert’s rates for us. We will be back.

Love this place! Nestled along an inlet of the lake in River East, Robert’s offers great pizza with a good location! Ordering for take-out was easy as well. Really liked the thickness of the crust outer layer combined with a thinner base layer. Side salads (Caesar and Italian) were really good as well. Great pizza spot!

Beautiful views of the water from this great restaurant. The staff was friendly, and helpful. They gave good suggestions for what to eat. The biggest problem with this restaurant is that the bathroom is a long wall from the restaurant. Overall, this is a great place to eat. If you enter from the street, follow signs down the stairs to the left. There is also a lift for wheelchairs.

My experience at this Italian restaurant was really excellent. The prosciutto pizza was prepared with a crispy and light dough, with fresh ingredients that gave it an authentic flavor. The cheeses were top quality, intense and delicious, ideal to accompany each dish. The service was very friendly and attentive, and the warm atmosphere made the visit even more pleasant. Without a doubt, a place that is worth recommending and where I will return with pleasure.”

Came for restaurant week and had a really great experience. Food and service was really good, and amazing value for restaurant week. Loved the mussels, burrata, and the funghi pizza was phenomenal.

The cocktails on the other hand could have been a little better, but I’ll definitely return for the food.

If you’re looking for a pizza experience that truly stands out in Chicago, Robert’s Pizza is the place to be. We recently visited and tried the Acorn Squash seasonal pizza, and let me tell you, it was a delightful tribute to fall. The flavor was rich and comforting, perfectly capturing the essence of the season.

The crust deserves a special mention—it struck the ideal balance between crunchy and chewy, making every bite a pleasure. It’s clear that great care goes into their dough, resulting in a texture that’s hard to find elsewhere.

What made our visit even more memorable was Robert, the owner, who took the time to swing by our table. He was genuinely engaging, sharing his passion for pizza and recommending the Rita, a pizza named after his mother. His enthusiasm for his craft and the pride he takes in his team was evident, which is a refreshing sight, especially on a busy Saturday.

It’s rare to see an owner actively involved in the restaurant floor, assisting his staff and ensuring everything runs smoothly. This kind of leadership speaks volumes about the atmosphere at Robert’s Pizza.

In summary, if you’re in Chicago and want the best pizza experience, look no further than Robert’s. The combination of exceptional food and a welcoming environment makes it a standout choice. Can’t wait for our next visit to try the Rita!

Sincerely,
Lisa and Greg

Great spot for pizza. The funghi was the best pizza with garlic and mushrooms. I also enjoyed the grilled vegetable pizza which we requested with fresh Jalapeños (not canned or jarred Jalapeños but freshly cut jalapenos). Service was a little slow especially on the two orders of fries that we ordered. A little disappointed with the inaccurate final receipt which included 3 orders of fries instead of two. They also add on a 2.5% fee on top of the total amount for employee benefits which is absurd. Overall, the food was pretty good and I would visit again.

Great place to eat after taking 90 min architectural boat tour. Not surprising this restaurant was voted best pizza in Chicago the last five years. Pizza was delicious Love location along the river and the windows open outward to make you feel as if you were eating outside.
