There’s a lot of hype around this place due to the number of awards they’ve won and the number of “Best Pizza” lists they are on. So, there’s almost always going to be a sizeable wait if you just walk-in. Get a reservation instead.
Is the Hype real? Yes.
The crust has a good crisp to it and the tomato sauce is light and breezy with just enough flavor as to not overshadow the ingredients. Sausage is some of the best in the area. Pepperoni has a very nice snap and a satisfying zip. Mushrooms are fresh and understated. Black olives have flavor without the lingering brine taste that you get from a jar.
Service was fast and friendly. We ordered our pizza and had it at our table within 10 min despite the place being packed to the hills with diners.
They do have a number of standard cocktails on the menu. I would avoid those and instead look to their drink specials which seem to be made with more care and have more flair.
It’s a pricey experience, but well worth the cost.
The restaurant itself seems very nice and has good views of the canal. The takeout window is just down the hall from the entrance. The canal location puts Robert’s slightly off the beaten path. We ordered take-out and were close, so we walked there. As a result, I am not sure what parking would be like. The staff was responsive and quick. Everything was ready for our pick-up ahead of time.
We have eaten a lot of great Chicago pizza over the years. Robert’s rates for us. We will be back.
100% recommend!
The cocktails on the other hand could have been a little better, but I’ll definitely return for the food.
The crust deserves a special mention—it struck the ideal balance between crunchy and chewy, making every bite a pleasure. It’s clear that great care goes into their dough, resulting in a texture that’s hard to find elsewhere.
What made our visit even more memorable was Robert, the owner, who took the time to swing by our table. He was genuinely engaging, sharing his passion for pizza and recommending the Rita, a pizza named after his mother. His enthusiasm for his craft and the pride he takes in his team was evident, which is a refreshing sight, especially on a busy Saturday.
It’s rare to see an owner actively involved in the restaurant floor, assisting his staff and ensuring everything runs smoothly. This kind of leadership speaks volumes about the atmosphere at Robert’s Pizza.
In summary, if you’re in Chicago and want the best pizza experience, look no further than Robert’s. The combination of exceptional food and a welcoming environment makes it a standout choice. Can’t wait for our next visit to try the Rita!
Sincerely,
Lisa and Greg
