Today, October 17, 2025 was a soft opening of this brand new all you can eat elevated sushi restaurant.
After speaking with the staff, I found out that the same MasterChef that brought Love Boat Sushi to Oceanside and Blue Ocean to Carlsbad, is in charge of bringing this unique experience to us.
Robata-X Sushi & Izakaya provides a premium sushi dining experience with high-quality ingredients, the option for à la cart, an appetizer menu and their best value is All-You-Can-Eat.
When it comes to dining-in options, Robata-X has plenty of seating inside, with high-tables and booths available and they even extended the dining area to an outdoor patio and the front of the restaurant as well.
Their service still has room for improvement and I feel that they may need to hire more staff during the day, but they seem to have enough for the evenings and weekend.
The service staff are friendly and helpful, but their overall menu system needs a lot of improvement.
Currently, they have an extensive menu with over 50+ items and there’s no descriptions of the individual items or photos either.
So far, everything looks great and they will have a small cooler upfront for sushi orders to go.
For sushi rolls, I enjoyed the Camp Pendleton, Imperial Beach, Torrey Pines & Robata-X Toro.
I also liked the Korean BBQ ribs & the crispy eggplant in a sweet soy glaze.
The only dish I really didn’t care for was their chicken karaage, which was more like Panda Express Orange Chicken without the sauce.
But I’m not too judgmental, because their specialty is seafood and NOT chicken.
I also don’t prefer their music playlist of choice.
It’s currently a station with cover songs of the 80’s & 90’s playing rather loud and while I LOVE that genre of music, I would rather some gentle Japanese ambiance vibes.
Overall, I’m very happy with their opening and although I know they’re improving, they’re off to a great start and have a fantastic concept!

We went for dinner on a Wednesday night. The dining room was about half full and service seemed ok. We waited maybe 10-15 minutes for the noodle/teriyaki options but the sushi seemed to fly out as soon as we ordered. They have an all-you-can-eat menu as well as a regular “a la carte” menu. We chose the latter and I’m glad we did because I was full after just two sushi rolls. Everything was delicious, way better than the other local sushi places and pretty similar pricing. I’m really hoping this new place sticks around for a long time 🙂

I really love the food! Sushi is fresh and has fish instead of imitation crab in and out, very good quality and flavourful cooking. Chef Sho is an amazing cook as well as his well trained staff. He’s passionate about what he creates in the kitchen and it is exceptionally proven in the cooking. Big plus is the dessert! I will be their loyal customer and highly recommend this restaurant.

Went today Maybe better to come back in 6 months. The girl dropped the water glasses to start off. And each sushi not sure but seemed off maybe like a Korean vegetable tossed in some rolls but both me and my buddy felt each roll was a little off 3/12 were good and no alcohol yet. I believe it can be great just not sure. Rolls did come quick after we ordered and staff was nice. Good parking at location. I’m positive about its future

Tempted by the all you can eat sushi, we walked through the doors. The first sushi roll was the largest most delicious sushi roll I have had in a while. Very fresh ingredients, the flavour profiles collided into one exquisite experience.

The food here is great! Incredible value as well. Highly recommend this place. Hidden gem that won’t be hidden so well. The favorites I had: sugar dragon roll, the fried rice, crispy eggplant, the lemon salmon was very special, and the steak and pineapple skewers. Glad I tried this place with my family!

Warmly greeted by all the staff as soon as we walked in. Atmosphere was elegant and pleasant. All members were very helpful and attentive. We had the all you can eat sushi. Each specialty roll was fabricated so beautifully and delicious.

High quality rolls. All you can eat may or may not be worth it depending on your appetite, they give you 8-10 pieces with each roll, so if you don’t come with a crowd you get full fast. Plan out how much you think you can eat first, and see if it is more or less than the ayce price based on the online ordering menu (currently 50 for adults, 80 for omakase, prorated for children depending on age).

Oside local here, thrilled to give this review. Atmosphere was warm, welcoming and clean. Whether it’s date night or quality time with the family Robata-X is an excellent choice. John, our waiter was friendly & very attentive along with the rest of the staff who continuously monitored the tables to remove empty dishes, refill drinks, answer questions regarding menu options and place additional orders from the AYCE menu. We arrived for dinner about 6:30p on a Saturday night and were seated immediately, with drinks served within 5 min and appetizers quickly afterwards. I’ve a feeling that when word spreads there’ll be a line so I highly recommend taking advantage of their newly opened doors while you can. We enjoyed the food immensely, from the gyoza to the sushi rolls that melted in our mouths it was a flavorful experience. Well worth the price. The Black Dragon Roll was our favorite. I think that the changes made to the service since the soft opening of the restaurant over a week ago have made an impact because our entire experience was excellent and we have nothing but positive feedback. We highly recommend this place to our family, friends and neighbors.
