Riviera Maya offers tasty Peruvian cuisine with some standout dishes, but the overall dining experience is affected by slow and inattentive service.
Walking into Riviera Maya, we stood waiting at the host stand for a minute with no one in sight, which set the tone for the service. Once seated, we waited around 10 minutes before anyone took our order. The server took our menus before we even had the chance to confirm what we wanted, which felt rushed and a bit unprofessional. After placing our order, the food came out about 10 minutes later.
The food itself was solid. We ordered tacu tacu—a seafood dish served over rice in a rich sauce—and I had the 8oz steak with rice, fries, plantains, egg, peppers, and a few stalks of asparagus. The fries and rice were a tad under-seasoned, and the steak was initially overcooked. I sent it back, and while the server seemed irritated, the second steak they brought out was perfect: tender, soft, and flavorful.
The total came out to about $90 with a 15% gratuity included. My dish was $49, and with a basic estimate, my dad’s tacu tacu was likely around $30–$32, plus two drinks (a water and a club soda), which fits the final total.
While the food was enjoyable, the service really needs work. A more attentive, welcoming approach would elevate the experience significantly. I’d consider coming back for the food, but I’d hope to see improvements on the hospitality side

The food and service is amazing. The paella is delicious and the drinks are so good. Everyone else said their food was very good. The staff is so attentive, celebrated my birthday and it was amazing.

It’s okay. I mean the food is delicious, a huge menu but what i dont like is the dark lighting and also they’re waiter service is ridiculous slow. I was kinda bummed about this because the 3 times we have gone it seems to be the same type of service… slow.

This was a fun spot to stop for great Mexican food on our way to Maine. Nice outdoor patio in the hub of downtown with very friendly, attentive staff, and happy atmosphere. Complementary delicious chunky salsa and chips! Yummy!!! Margaritas were delicious!!!

Waitress should be a bit more attentive to customers when they first arrive. On several occasions I had to find my own table to sit then hunt the waitress down to take my order. Other then that’s is a very nice place to have dinner.

Clean establishment, great staff, excellent cocktails. The food is good, but nothing over the top, it’s your fairly standard mexicana themed food. The carne asada was particularly good and worth note.

Place and staff was super nice. We ordered Veggie Taco and quesadilla.
Taco were fine but not great, it had broccoli stuffing and tasted very plain. I believe if they would have chosen some other stuffing instead of broccoli, it would have tasted better

Most importantly, the food was amazing. Everything was fresh and tasty. Ordered the Nachos with shredded chicken as appetizer, the Fajitas with Chicken & Beef and the Spicy Beef Tips (Puntas in Chipotle Sauce) for dinner. I was a little disappointed with the serving size of the Beef tips and the sides. The side dishes of rice and refried beans were excruciatingly small considering how cheap that food is. The Beef tips were amazingly tender and delicious, but if there were more than 5 mouthfuls of beef, that was a lot. Alongside the beef tips was a tiny salad. It was a $25 dish…I expected more. If not for the serving sizes vs. price, I would have given it 5 stars.

Great service and drinks! The spicy maragarita is good but not at all spicy. We loved the nachos but they were pretty small and should definitely not be shared by two people.
