Oh my what a refreshing change to the local menu options. Reasonably priced, atmosphere was relaxed and elegant at the same time.
The food delighted my palate. Just the right amount spice and herbs to bring out the flavor of the lamb.

The food was tasty, everyone enjoyed their entrees. The portions were huge, almost everyone in our party was able to get a second meal out of their order. The only downsides to this place is that it can be slightly pricey (but again, it’s more like you’re getting two meals) and it can get pretty loud inside.

We hadn’t been here in some time, expensive eating is something we do on special occasions. We we’re both pleasantly surprised they had redecorated and updated the place. It’s very nice inside now, wooden floors, nice square bar with a fireplace in the center of the north side of the dining area. The south(right side)appeared to be dining. We didn’t have reservations but were asked if we had them. Never needed them before, and was surprised they asked. (They were not booked up, immediate seats available).
We we’re seated in a high-top in the bar room. They now have TV’s hanging over the bar too. Soon as I sat down, I noticed my silverware looked like it had missed the wash cycle. When our server came, I asked for a clean set, she asked for our drink orders and took away the silverware, wrapping it in the napkin they sat on. My husband ordered a draft beer, I ordered a $9 Old Fashioned. Drinks and silverware came quickly enough. Unfortunately, my Old Fashioned was ruined by the overpowered bourbon used. It was not a balanced drink. Once it got watered down, it was more drinkable. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Jack Daniel’s girl but that OF was WAY overpowered. Hubby’s beer was cold as it should have been. We ordered the onion ring appetizer, sadly, it was the best dish of the night. They were battered lightly and the sauce that came with them was good. Slightly spicy light a sour cream-siracha sauce. Hubby ordered a $28 sirloin that was 8 Oz. It was charred as the menu said and he asked for mashed potatoes and also got a small dish of carrots. The steak was charred and hard to cut through the crusted char. No flavoring on the steak, not even a butter bath before serving. The carrots were in a sweet cumin flavored broth that was good, again, spicy. Seems like the menu writers like spice here. Not too spicy to eat, just spicy enough to let you know it’s there. The potatoes were russet, mashed, chunky and with some peels. They tasted good. I ordered a dish called Airplane Chicken($26). Curiosity got me. Sun dried tomatoes, pesto, and what kind of chicken….it was a small (boneless) breast, maybe 4 oz and had the drummie wing attached. When it came, it kinda looked like vomit on the chicken. The pesto and sun-dried tomatoes didn’t mix well to make it a recipe. It was like “let’s throw this together “. I wouldn’t recommend it. My additional items were a baked potato and the same carrots as hubby got. Baked potato was good, fully cooked, carrots are also very good but as I got to the last couple pieces, I found a hair in the dish. Looked like a beard hair. Our server was shocked and said she’d take it to the cooks so they would know, however, didn’t offer any reduction on the meal.
This place now has what I would call, a limited menu, 6-9 bugers, 3-4 pasta dishes, some seafood and a couple steaks ranging from $28 – $78! Couldn’t believe a 24oz porterhouse could cost that much in any restaurant!
When we walked into the restaurant, my husband mentioned it was our anniversary, the one woman that seated us said she’d take us to her house and “cook us a good meal “. We kinda laughed it off, but thinking it was true! Disappointing evening at the Riverside Tavern. Our final bill for dinner, 1 OF, and 2 beers was $97. We should have driven to Baxter to our usual anniversary place!.

Excited to have this new, old spot in town! We’ve been coming here for 20 years and I love what the new folks have done with the renovations. I’ve only stopped in twice and both times have been just okay.

The first time, I ordered the salmon with mashed potatoes. One bite of the mashed potatoes and I made the rest of my party double check that I’m not crazy—something about the flavor was off. They agreed. I suspect they use boil in a bag potatoes from Sysco/US Foods or a synthetic butter substitute. Either way, I did mention to the server why the mashed potatoes were the only thing uneaten on the plate. It’s hard to pay $30+ for a piece of salmon and 12 green beans.

The second time, I had the walleye sandwich and it was just okay. The thick panko breading didn’t do anything for the fish and it made me miss a standard beer battered walleye sandwich. With my recommendation, a person in my party ordered a baked potato with their meal. The plate first came with mashed potatoes. Well hey, now I can try again! I’m sure my last experience was just a hiccup. Nope—same weird flavor.

On the topic of weird flavors, Riverside has a similar problem to other Crosslake establishments (such as the Cedar Chest) when it comes to their water and soft drinks. It is very heavy in a mineral-y, iron flavor. I ordered a soda first, but had to pivot to a beer because the mineral flavor is so off putting to me. Local water supply isn’t the establishments fault, but a good filter or reverse osmosis system goes far when a major function of a business is serving beverages.

Good things: the salads are great, the servers have been nice, and the menu is diverse and tempting enough to know I’ll be back for another shot.

We stopped by to see a friend, and have lunch. The best gyro I’ve ever had! We’ve been to Lakes Tavern as well. Consistently excellent service and food! Thank you!

First time visiting here. We expected to love this place. It has a nice parking lot and a beautiful view outside. Very nice on the inside also. Unfortunately, we had a waitress who either was in a bad mood or just didn’t care about the customer. I asked what kind of beef they used in their burgers and if they were good and would she recommend them. She looked at me like I had 3 eyes. She said they’re ground beef. She said they’re good. I should have taken that as a sign to not order them. Unfortunately, we each ordered a burger and asked for medium rare ( we even specified we don’t want them well done please) and we ordered onion rings instead of fries.

When the food came out, we had french fries with the burgers. She left quickly, so I had to find her to tell her we had ordered onion rings. Then, she came to take our plates with our burgers away. I said, just leave the food here and bring us out the onion rings. Again, she looked at me like I had 3 eyes. We cut into our burgers, and they were both very well done. They were dry and tough. It was so disappointing, but I didn’t feel like complaining again… when she finally came out with our onion rings, (it had been a while) she put them down and said, you can just keep the fries. I looked at her and said, “as opposed to you dumping them in the trash?” Why would she take the whole plate away because they made a mistake with the side dish? You say, I’m sorry and bring out the correct side dish. At that point, Im not real happy, so I tell her our burgers are very well done, we ordered medium rare. She looked at her notes and said, that’s what I put on the order form. Then she walked away… so we were stuck with terrible overcooked burgers. She brought us out our bill and set and left again. No, discount, no offer to make it right on the burgers. Just a rude, disgruntled, maybe unhappy employee that ruined what should have been a good night. She was cold from the minute we sat down with each question I asked about the appetizers, the wings, what she would recommend. I hate to post negative comments but I also want to be honest. It wasn’t very busy, we got there early on a Tuesday night. We won’t be back.

The new Riverside Tavern is a great addition to the Crosslake area. My partner and I had dinner there shortly after they opened and had one of the best dining experience to date up North. We had the chicken tika maslasa (Somehow Riverside has mastered making the best version of this Indian dish that I’ve ever eaten) and a lobster pasta (Which was also superb).
Unfourtanately we went here for lunch on one of our last visits and had a very mediocre experience with their lunch menu. A group of 7 of us tried a variety of their sandwiches and burgers and was left underwhelmed by all of them. I would suggest elevating these menu items considering the price points of them.
Also, the espresso martini was really bad.
Regardless, we will certainly be returning, if anything again for dinner as we had a 10/10 experience with that portion of the menu. Happy to have you in our town, Riverside! See you soon!

Excited to have a new dining spot, BUT, we ordered the salmon spread and brussels spouts as appetizers. The salmon spread was okay, but how do 4 people split only 6 crostini toasts that were impossible to bite into. Brussel spouts were shredded and over done. The burgers were tasty, but onion rings were over cooked and tasteless. I ordered a 2nd glass of wine when my entree came and arrived after I was done eating. Maybe because we were on the patio the service was slow at 2 in the afternoon. Hardly any cars in the parking lot, but maybe the server was new. The building looks nice, but they need a manager or owner to keep tabs on the food coming out and the bar running smoothly. Apparently their is no one around.
