After making very last-minute Valentine’s Day plans and realizing most places were fully booked, we decided to drive around Westport and see what we could find. That spontaneous decision led us to an absolute treasure.

They offered the perfect Valentine’s Day menu—easy to navigate and beautifully suited for the occasion without being overwhelming. For my appetizer, I had the crab cake, which was incredibly well-seasoned and served on a fresh bed of spinach. It was light yet flavorful, the perfect way to start the evening.

For my main course, I ordered the grilled swordfish. It was fresh, tender, and full of flavor. What truly surprised me was the sauce paired with pineapple—it sounded interesting, but it worked perfectly. The balance of savory and sweet was spot on, and every bite complemented the next.

To end the night, I had the passion fruit tart for dessert. It was the ideal sweet finish to such a fulfilling meal—bright, refreshing, and not overly heavy. The drinks were also delicious and thoughtfully crafted.

The service matched the quality of the food. The owner and servers were attentive, welcoming, and genuinely involved in ensuring we had a great experience. Since we had our children with us, we especially appreciated how accommodating and kind they were. The atmosphere was warm, comfortable, and intimate—perfect for Valentine’s Day but also family-friendly.
We will definitely be back!

The perfect place to go for a beautiful brunch or dinner by the river. An absolute masterpiece of service, atmosphere, and fine French cuisine. You absolutely must see it for yourself. I recommend eating the French Toast, but everything we had was perfect, so it is really a matter of preference. I also suggest getting dessert to end you evening with a sweet treat to die for!

They also do events! My brother and sister in law had their rehearsal dinner here, and it couldn’t have been a better day with their beautiful balcony and amazing food.

Absolutely wonderful! Have not had such an amazing culinary experience in a long time. The food was delectable, from the appetizer to desert. The service first rate. Our maître d’ was very welcoming and accommodating. Looking out at the Saugatuck river surrounding the restaurant just made the experience more memorable. Highly recommend! You will not be disappointed.

If you want to have an amazing experience and appreciate great food come here! JP is so friendly and gives attention to detail from beginning to end. Their bartender Rudy makes the best drinks. They never disappoint! I keep coming back.

This is a solid, classicFrench restaurant, with excellent food and attentive service. The atmosphere feels a little dated. although it has it charms. Located close to the water we enjoyed the view. Prices are quite high, but the quality of the food was very good.

I would love to have been able to leave a review, however, here is my experience with the reservation process. My wife and I decided to book a Christmas Eve dinner reservation as a change from our usual haunts, especially after hearing rave reviews from friends who went for Thanksgiving. I called at the end of November, was told that the Christmas Eve menu was not set as yet, but I could leave my name and phone number, which I did, and that I would get a call back in a week or so. Weeks went by, no call came. Things got busy and I called to follow up on 12/20. I spoke to a lovely woman named Caroline about a reservation and told her I was supposed to have gotten a call back regarding my earlier reservation inquiry. When she checked the call-back list, my name and number was not on it. Caroline then told me she had a party to seat, took my name and number, and said she would call me back in 5 minutes. That was three hours ago and I have yet to receive a call from Caroline. So we have booked elsewhere instead. I fail to comprehend this turn of events.and lack of courtesy. When I called, both times, I was courteous as I believe that when I am making a reservation it calls for me to make a good impression, from the start, as a customer. I can only opine to being surprised and disappointed. Happy Holidays

First time experience for lunch on 7/26th without reservations and was able to be seated outside. French instrumental music playing was so relaxing and added to the atmosphere of sitting waterside.
I ordered and enjoyed the Romaine Salad with creamy horseradish dressing, thick bacon (similar to pancetta), warm roasted small potatoes, and brie cheese. My husband ordered Croque Monsieur which was outstanding! I further went on to make a reservation for (4) on 7/30 for a 70th Birthday Brunch. Bloody Mary’s and Mimosa’s were a refreshing start. Followed by Beet Salad, Romaine Salad, and Kale & Farro Salad all topped with delicious, moist grilled salmon. My husband had the salmon entree. All excellent choices with attentive wait staff. Hostess Caroline was welcoming and gracious and honestly added to the enjoyable experience. We can’t wait to return!

I’ve been here exactly twice.

One time, I went for brunch, sat outside. Incredible brunch, beautiful seating. I had a poached egg on toast or something similar. A duck was following one of the waiters around. 5/5.

The second time, I came for dinner. Sat inside. Had a pasta dish, incredibly oversalted. Everyone else ordered things that were also oversalted. It was kind of underwhelming compared to how good the brunch offering was in my memory. No duck this time, 2/5.

Service was fine both times if I recall. Definitely recommend sitting outside if you can, it’s very pretty by the river. Ask them to salt the meals less when you order here and it’ll be delicious.

As I hobbled on crutches into Rive a few minutes before opening today, my friend and I were greeted by the lovely Caroline.  She led us to a prime table next to the Saugatuck, inquired how I was doing, and brought over a chair so that I could elevate my leg.  This was my first visit to Rive, and the entire experience  was amazing.  The waitstaff, background music and delicious food made for a lovely al fresco lunch.  The salad of the day with grilled shrimp, pate, sparkling rose, croque monsieur and profiteroles were all excellent.  This establishment is a real gem in Westport.
