For the most part, this is a lovely little diner! Food was amazing, waitress was very nice, and the menu was plentiful! Although the chef was EXTREMELY rude… I used to live nearby & would come in for breakfast all the time as kid and hadn’t been here in 5-6 years since I moved across town. It was my boyfriends 18th birthday breakfast as well, we’d been up for hours and it was 11am so we’re both starved teenagers. We order a breakfast meal each, a side of potatoes & sausage, one slice of French toast & drinks. This is a VERY small restaurant and we’re sat right at the counter, and so as the waitress gives the chef the meal ticket he loudly sighs and immediately starts complaining about how it’s a massive order and it must be for a huge table, and making other critiques such as bring mad about me adding cheese to hashbrowns, getting a side of sausage, and wanting an english muffin instead of just toast. She then quietly tells him it isn’t and he says FULL VOLUME “Oh wow, just two people? Those girls right there? Wow…” As he stares at us. Excuse me? Are you serious? It took over 20 minutes for our food to be made and the entire time it was being cooked, he complained loudly! We didn’t ask for a critique on the way we eat or to be humiliated! This was supposed to be a special treat at a special place, and now we’re being made out to feel like we’re land whales for simply ordering breakfast?? Admittedly we are bigger guys but seriously dude if you’re at work you have no right to be talking to or about your customers in that manner, that is COMPLETELY unprofessional and rude. I absolutely have never experienced such behavior in my life from a service worker. I’m appalled and seriously considering never returning after being made to feel so much shame over ORDERING FOOD AT A DINER. It was hard to eat feeling like I was a massive pig the whole time, as well as having the chef glaring daggers at us from the kitchen window (which was directly across from our seats at the counter.) The only saving grace of the meal was the waitress reassuring us that it was okay and not to feel bad because he’s just mad he has to cook it all & he’s tired. Then later on she mentioned it’d been a slow day, so… Yeah. TLDR: Don’t come if you’re going to order food I guess? Chef doesn’t like customers supporting the small business & WILL body shame you, and complain about your order.

This is a perfect little “hole in the wall” place for breakfast in Salem.
The food is good, the server is friendly and attentive, and the owner even walks around to see how the patrons are doing.
Great small town atmosphere, with a local “family” feeling.

Absolutely love this place! everything about was amazing. The food was delicious. Please try the German sausage, you won’t be disappointed. The hash browns were crispy on BOTH sides . The lady who took our order was the sweetest & did her job with excellence. For the price, they give you so much food. We couldn’t finished it all & had to do to go boxes! Gonna stop by here again when we have the chance.

This was great. Very enjoyable experience. Never been in a diner this clean. Food was great, service was awesome, even the cook was personable. This is a must go to type of place. We live 45 minutes away but will make sure we visit here regularly.

I really wanted to love this place, I’ve passed by nearly every day on my way to work for the past year. I was excited to try it because I love small diners and was hoping for that friendly, small-town vibe where everyone knows each other.

The server was friendly enough, but we waited over an hour for our food. The diner only has about seven tables and a small counter, so it was surprising that several parties who arrived 20+ minutes after us were served first. When we asked about our order, we overheard the cook say, “yeah, yeah, I saw them staring at me,” which didn’t feel great.

The food itself was okay, but not worth such a long wait. I’ve been in the service industry for 20 years, so I always try to give grace when a server’s in the weeds—but she didn’t seem overwhelmed, just focused on other tables. I’m not sure if we just weren’t a priority for some reason, but we definitely felt a bit out of place. My partner and I are a bit alternative in our appearance, and it was hard not to feel like that played a role in how we were treated, it wouldn’t be the first time it’s happened in Salem.

I was hoping to find a new regular spot, but unfortunately this visit missed the mark.

Waitress and Cook are awesome here. If you get there early you won’t fight for a seat. After 10am it gets busy. Its a Small mom n pop eat in diner and that is hard to find anymore.

Stopped in for breakfast and had some delicious 1/2 order of biscuits and gravey, Scrambled egg and German sausage. Great way to stayed fueled for the day. Kim the server was super friendly and there’s plenty of options to choose from. The price won’t break the bank either. Highly recommend stopping if you have the time and they aren’t packed. To-Go options also available

New owners and it shows!
This is NOT the old Ritz diner by any means. They clearly have not found their rythem here….yet.

We sat and ordered and after ordering (in a place that litterally has four tables of 4, two tables of 2 and 7 seats at the bar) it took almost 40 minutes to get food!!!
My waffle was cold (didn’t even melt my butter), eggs didn’t look like two, forgot our bacon. The sausage was super greasy and the waitress was MIA more often than not.
The biscuits and gravy were the best thing out of all of our food. Tasty gravy, light biscuit and hot….that’s the only thing I would recommend rite now.
The cook….not the waitress, the cook him self did offer and make a hot waffle when I asked to swap it out. Side note…the oj is one of those ones that tastes like it’s on the verge of going bad.

We will be waiting a wile before trying this place again (only because they have new owners).

The food and waitress were great! The cook made a rude comment and the whole place heard him. The cook shouldn’t be rude based on a customers order.
