Found Risa’s on quick google search , walked over from the Aloft & thought I was in the wrong spot – no, Risas is inside the building.
The absolute BEST matzoh ball soup I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying in my entire life. So flavorful, authentic, especially because Risa was quite literally making her handmade Matzoh Balls when we walked in. Friendly service & cozy atmosphere. Loved it so much we came back day 2 & took a cup for the road & a bowl to keep in the fridge for the weekend.
Thank you Risa for the most warming bowl of soup that was clearly made with lots of love.
Sincerely,
Someone far from home who really needed a hug in a bowl.
I only recently discovered Risa’s after searching for authentic Jewish Delis in Buffalo, which are almost non-existent.
I stopped by Risa’s this morning for a lox and cream cheese bagel, and was not disappointed.
I was fortunate enough to meet Risa, the friendly and engaging owner, and daughter of the founder.
The offerings are varied, and the deli is clean, bright and inviting.
Can’t wait to go back and try some of Risa’s other specialtes!

The sandwiches are phenomenal. I’ve eaten a little of everything there from PB&J to a couple of the specialties.
Most importantly, the folks there are incredibly kind. 10/10 will continue to have them provide routine sustenance for me.
I had lunch combo, a bowl of matzo ball soup and the half a pastrami sandwich. I would be hard pressed to find a better, more stratifying lunch deal for as good of a price pretty much anywhere. I cannot recommend it as a lunch spot highly enough. Classics done simple and done right.
I also tried the lemon bar and the peanut butter bar. The lemon bar is perfectly serviceable, I have no complaints even if it’s nothing special. That peanut butter bar thought? Man that thing was so so good. Huge and rich too, I’m glad I was splitting it.
My friend and I were making plans to come back and what we would try next before we even finished eating. I wish i’d taken a picture but it was so good I was halfway finished before I even thought about it.
It’s always worth popping in when you’re nearby.
