I rarely ever leave one star reviews in all the years my wife and I have been dining but this place deserves it. Absolutely atrocious !! Yuck ! Buyer Beware !! We decided to try Ripkas at the Norwalk Beach and as we walked in there a line of 9 customers with only one cashier. (You may want to hire another counter person) during peak times. We waited about 40 mins for two sandwiches. Upon glancing at the food I couldn’t believe it. Burger wasn’t cooked med-well as ordered. The other sandwich had what appeared to be old Elmers wood glue all over it. See photos. Philly steak looked frozen then warmed up as greasy meat. Fries were maybe the one star if not I wouldn’t rated this place a zero. Wait it gets better; the price was $42 bucks for that is embarrassing. You guys were so cheap you couldn’t add a bit of fries as a combo meal? You had to charge extra. We took a couple of bites and through the rest in the garbage. We absolutely DO NOT recommend. We’re local but would ever go back there again. Spend your money and enjoy a good meal elsewhere.

The food was excellent! I had the lobster mac, my younger sister had the chicken tenders and fries (she had the regular size, but there’s a kid’s version for that too), and my mother had a hot lobster roll! Initially, my mother was terrified when I bought an entire lobster for her, so I returned it, and while I couldn’t get a refund on the same day due to the fireworks event, I returned a few days later to get the refund with the help of the manager, Clyde Ripka! Thank you for understanding about the refund I requested!

Nice option for food & drinks near the beach! Careful parking as the city is trolling looking to fine any non resident parked cars $150. But not to worry, just let them know you are going to Ripka’s to eat. They will record your plate # and you’re good for 90 minutes!
Ordered lobster roll, cold style, so fresh so sweet… very good! Tilapia tacos were ok, maybe a bit too much sauce over top made it hard to taste the fish. Fries are ok, not what I had imagined from the posted reviews. Everyone has their preference on fries.
The vibe is definitely beachy, the food is very good for a simple establishment. Seems something missing to make this a regular stop for us… we will keep trying their menu, hopefully we will find that something special…

Been coming here for a few years but decided to do a review today. Ripka’s is a gem of a place right by Calf Pasture Beach. Where you would suspect a normal little snack hut to stand is actually quite an impressive location with a varied menu full of food and drink options.
Their seafood has always been top notch but one of the best things on their menu has been their fries. Some of the best fries I’ve had anywhere, period. Today we picked up a batch with cheese and their truffle fries. Brilliant, crispy, with huge portions they can be a meal unto themselves.
Definitely worth a visit to the beach! I’ll look forward to my next visit!

When you stop by a beach cafe and it’s run by some college kids back for the summer or high schoolers that their parents forced them to get a job for 3 months, you know it’s gonna be good.
You’re getting an all American classic burger, and fries that are great. Tilapia tacos are on the white people taco side, but the fish was good.
They have cocktails where you can get “on the rocks” or “frozen.” Not slushy frozen, but shaken with ice until it melts i guess.
Prices are totally fair in 2024. $8.75 for a cheeseburger.

Unfortunately Ripka’s continues to go down hill year over year (since moving to CT in 2020). I used to love everything about it – the food, the staff/service, and the atmosphere. Last year I ordered the buffalo chicken burger and it seemed like it wasn’t fully cooked, but I let it go. This year (2025), there’s two young women running the cashier and food delivery and they lack serious service skills – talking to one another over acknowledging customers. At least last year’s help was friendly and engaging, and made up for what was lacking YOY. It’s a shame because Ripka’s is in a great spot and the concept of a beach cafe, especially with their offerings, could be five-star for sure.
Update – the prices do not reflect the poor service (that continues to decline).

We used Ripka’s catering for our wedding at Sheffield Island. We booked this with them in January of 2020 and through all the uncertainty they stuck with us and put together an incredible event. Since we did not have dancing due to COVID, the food was the main focus (after the bride, of course). Clyde put together passed appetizers plus a 5 course meal, with wine pairings and it was some of the best food we’ve had. Our guests were raving! The staff that day couldn’t have been more accommodating and made sure we had everything we wanted. Would absolutely recommend for catering and can’t wait to spend more evenings at the beach cafe.

Wasted opportunity. Great location, should be a fantastic place to have a meal while enjoying the beach, or even to come down in the evening for a beachfront dinner. But, the food is severely subpar. It’s really a shame, because they’re not selling haute cuisine, It’s typical snack bar food, and they just take come up short across the board. Honestly, the French fries are the only decent thing they sell. And to top it off, the staff are either miserable, inattentive or a combination of both. This review does not come after a one and done visit either. Have given them more than enough chances to get it right, because I really wish I could like this place. Maybe time for a new operator?

We were visiting from out of the area and found this place on the internet. We wanted something that was local to the area. Ripka’s fit the requirement. Glad we found it! The food was great! The warm lobster rolls, grilled oysters, tilapia tacos, and clam chowder were all fantastic. Highly recommend the grilled oysters. We were here during the off season so there was no wait. Had kids and babies in our party and the environment was suitable for children. When we are back in the area, this place will definitely be on our “must do/visit” list.
