Wine list’s short but well picked and the small-batch Flash House IPA will sort any proper beer lover out. Just mind there’s a break after breakfast and lunch service.
No fuss.. no nonsense. Just class seafood in a class spot.
Spending New Year’s Day at Riley’s Fish Shack with my wife and our two children was the kind of experience that reminds you why simple food, done brilliantly, is so special.
Perched right on the beach, with the North Sea rolling in just a few metres away, Riley’s feels less like a restaurant and more like a celebration of the coast. Even before the food arrived, the smell of charcoal, salt air and wood smoke set the tone perfectly.
The seafood was outstanding. The grilled fish was cooked over open fire to perfection – beautifully charred on the outside, tender and flaky within, and finished with a rich, buttery sauce scattered with herbs and capers that lifted every bite. Alongside it, the smoky grilled vegetables added depth and balance, while the crusty bread was ideal for soaking up every last drop of sauce.
The oysters were a real highlight. Fresh, cold, and briny, they tasted of the sea itself. Served simply with lemon and a delicate shallot dressing, they were clean, elegant, and incredibly fresh – a treat that felt both indulgent and honest.
What made the day even more special was how welcoming and relaxed the atmosphere was. Despite it being New Year’s Day and brisk by the seaside, Riley’s felt warm and family-friendly. Our children were just as captivated by the setting as they were by the food, watching waves crash while we enjoyed some of the best seafood we’ve had in a long time.
Riley’s Fish Shack isn’t just about eating; it’s about the whole experience – fire, sea, fresh fish, and time well spent together. A perfect way to start the year, and somewhere we’ll be talking about (and returning to) for a long time to come.
The decking is still cosy and on a winters evening it is the perfect place to go for a meal out. Cannot recommend enough.
Dreamy location, good food and service.
This is a fish shack on the beach literally. Don’t expect plates and metal cutlery, most food is served in a brown paper box.
Ate here this evening and booked an inside table.
Opted for monkfish wrap, which came with a delicious crunchy salad, roast whole garlic cloves and potatoes. large soft white flat bread. Monkfish was superb. Washed down with a beer and a house white for us.
Good selection of beers. Great menu.
If you have mobility problems this eatery will prove a challenge for you. As its name suggests iits a fish shack on the beach. Many steps to get down and up. You know you’re alive once you’ve climbed the steps to get back to your car. Parking may also prove a challenge in busier times of the season.
That said when you get there you are rewarded with good food and an incredible view.
Booking recommended very busy.
Depending on what you order it can be pricy. We paid just shy of £100 for two monkfish mains, a beer, a house wine and a can of water.
