I just had an incredible first experience at Rick’s Cafe. You can tell immediately that the kitchen staff is exceptionally talented and brings a special, diverse energy to the food. I had the Butternut Squash Gnocchi with a turmeric cream sauce, garnished with Parmesan and crushed pistachios. It’s rare to find a kitchen that can balance turmeric’s strength so perfectly with the sweetness of the squash and the saltiness of the nuts,it was a truly unique, well rounded dish. The service was just as impressive. The bartender was amazing and very interactive. I finished with the warm Oreo butter cake topped with ice cream, which was the perfect end to the meal. Hagerstown is lucky to have a spot with this much talent. Five stars all around!

From the front riks cafe looks like just another strip mall restaurant. But once you step inside its a relaxing enjoyable location with excellent drinks and food. Service was professional and knowledgable. The Rikarita was fantastic and i had to order a second one. The blackened crap grilled cheese was as if they took the true essence of what makes maryland a great place to live and made it a grilled cheese. Our waitress was fantastic and was highly knowledgable about the menu and recommendations. Left here feeling fat and happy!

This is definitely a hidden gem. Probably wouldnt have given this place a second glance had Google maps not recommended it because it’s really dark and amongst some low budget shopping. But looks are deceiving! It’s very welcoming inside. All the staff seemed genuinely happy to be working there and that alone speaks volumes. My waitress was polite and attentive without being overbearing. My main dish (crabby chicken) was definitely good but lacked anything exciting on the plate. It was a seasoned chicken fillet topped with a crab cake and crab dip on a bed of rice with blanched broccoli florets on the side. A more creative side dish would have taken this to the next level. The drinks were fantastic. No lack of creativity there. The chocolate cherry sangria was slightly sweet but not overly so. I also had a s’mores Martini that had a crushed graham cracker rim . That was pretty interesting. Don’t skip the dessert! Take one home if anything . They bring out a tray for you to view. It’s spectacular. I had a chocolate bomb (layers of mousse and cream). It was one of the best desserts I’ve had in a long time.

I called in on Saturday @ 2:30 for a 3:30 reservation. The guy who answered said no problem and took my first name. When we arrived at 3:30 no one was at the hostess station. We waited several minutes for someone to cover over to seat us. We gave my name and said we had a reservation and the guy said he couldnt find our reservation but said he could still seat us.

Once we got seated, it took forever for someone to come over to take our drink order. Once we ordered our food though, it came out pretty fast. I ordered the Peppercorn Patty Melt which was just ok in my opinion. My boyfriend ordered the black and blue ribeye. It was a bad cut. It was super fatty and gross. He felt bad not being able to eat it and took the whole thing to go and we just tossed it when we got home. He isnt the type to complain or send food back. The dessert which I think was eggnog cake or something like that was really the only oart of our meal we enjoyed.

We arent local to the area but my boyfriend has friends there and they raved about this restaurant. Not sure if we just had bad timing or what but we wont be back.

Was in town to catch a flight and googled places in the area. This place kept popping up and figured we’d give it a try. Very glad we did – delicious food, great service, and very cute atmosphere. Will try and go again at another flight!

We had dinner, last night, at Rik’s Café in Hagerstown, and it was a fantastic experience. Our waitress, Maddie, was personable, attentive, and genuinely fun. She rolled right along with my husband’s sense of humor, keeping the laughs going both ways — it set the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable evening.

For drinks, my husband ordered a diet soda with no ice, and I went with their Dirty Martini Local. It was beautifully prepared and garnished with three plump blue-cheese stuffed olives in each glass. The balance was spot-on — I enjoyed one before dinner and had to order a second after the meal because it was that good.

We started with a caprese salad that was anything but ordinary — the prosciutto and avocado additions made it fresh, flavorful, and just perfect to share. For my entrée, I ordered the crab cakes with jasmine rice and collard greens. The crab cakes were flawless — big clumps of crab, cooked beautifully, and complemented with tartar sauce that tied everything together. My husband ordered the bison burger, stacked with pickled onions and a bacon-flavored aioli. It came with house-made Old Bay spiced chips, which added just the right crunch and seasoning. The burger looked incredible, and from the bite I sampled, it was mighty tasty. He loved it.

The atmosphere sealed the deal. Even at 8:30 p.m. on a weeknight (they close at 9:30), the dining room still had about six tables filled, from couples to larger groups. The bar is stunning — spacious, with a comfortable couch seating area and vintage-style cabinets that give it an old-fashioned, authentic feel, even though it’s tucked in a plaza. Food came out lightning fast and cooked to perfection, which honestly surprised us in the best way.

We would absolutely return. In fact, we drove down from Syracuse and it was absolutely worth the stop. Highly recommend Rik’s Café to anyone passing through Hagerstown — without question a five-star experience.

I’ve visited this place many times in the last 10+ years because I loved the menu. In the past year I visited twice and found the quality of the food has decreased. The menu is still pretty exciting but the presentation is not great. Think TGI Fridays. I understand that in this area it’s difficult to sell daring menu items so I can’t knock them for the menu changes. I ordered the crab cakes and wouldn’t recommend them. They were fairly small and no chunks of crab meat. They were also very wet and no browning on them. I never use tartar sauce on my crab cakes but did this time to make them taste better. My asparagus was cooked perfectly. My partner’s Reuben did not look impressive (dry untoasted bread) but tasted fine. Dessert looked stellar and tasted ok.

Fantastic food, excellent service, and fair prices…..what else is there to say! I’ll be back for more.

The wait staff were very attentive, the food was perfectly cooked/flavorful, and the Margarita was not watered down aka they didn’t skimp.

Loved it!

The food at the restaurant was good, but not exceptional enough to justify the high prices. While the flavors were enjoyable, the overall value felt lacking. On a positive note, the service was friendly and helpful, creating a welcoming atmosphere despite the steep cost.

Three and a half stars. We wanted this place to be great so that we could have another favorite place in the area. We got there n weekday for an early dinner. We were seated promptly and served by a nice friendly young guy. Our drinks were OK, the hazy IPA choice was a little weak, and my wife had to ask for more chocolate in the chocolate martini in order to taste chocolate. I had the cheese and crab grilled cheese and it was very good. The problems were with the desserts; we had heard and read that they were great, so I tried the brownie cake/sundae (I forget the exact names) and I can’t remember what my wife had exactly, but it was a butterscotch cake or pudding with marshmallows and/or blueberries. My wife opted for no marshmallows and blueberries. Desserts came and my wife’s had no blueberries and all marshmallows. But even with that screw-up the taste was really not that exciting. My brownie cake/sundae was so hard along the side that I had to use my knife, and even then I couldn’t cut it, so half of it stayed uneaten. This is obviously a popular place and the server was very attentive and owned up to the mistake with my wife’s dessert. We might try it again but without the desserts this time.
