The burrito I ordered was massive, easily a meal and a half. The beef was well-seasoned, tender, and packed tight with rice, lettuce, and cheese. Nothing soggy or bland—each bite had balance. The tortilla was warm, the foil wrap tight, and the ingredients fresh. It tasted like something made by someone who knows their way around a taquería grill.
The vibe is casual—red tables, foil-wrapped food, people talking across aisles, and the hum of the grocery store in the background. It’s not fancy, but it’s the kind of spot that reminds you flavor matters more than presentation.
Highlights:
• Generous portions (you’ll probably need a fork halfway through)
• Real flavor, not fast-food seasoning
• Affordable prices—good value for how much food you get
• Quick service even when it’s busy
Downside: Seating is limited, and the line can get long around lunch. But the wait’s worth it.
Verdict: Rico’s Tacos is the hidden gem of El Morelia—great food, no fuss, and serious satisfaction.
The Carne Asada Fries are also super tasty.
We will be back to try the other items on the menu along with the weekday special.
Pineapple Aqua Fresca is perfect!!!!

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
Undeniably the best Mexican food you’re going to find in St. Louis.
Located inside the El Morelia Supermarket, Rico’s Tacos is the rarest amongst hidden gems.
FOOD:
– Cooked fresh in front of you. Birria, carne asada, horchata, all the Mexican staples.
SERVICE
– Warm and welcoming. Excellent around the board. Shoutout Rico for his hospitality.
ATMOSPHERE
– Love listening to the Mexican tunes playing in the background
Rico’s Tacos not only holds its ground against the likes of Tacos el Gordo and the other countless Mexican Resturants I tried in Southern California and Texas, but the Food, Service, and Atmosphere makes it without doubt one of the best I’ve ever had.
There is a separate food bar (carryout) but that’s part of the store
The staff taking the orders were so friendly that it made the whole experience a very fun one. We will definitely be back to try other stuff on the menu.
Empanadas, tacos Al pastor were incredible. The salsa bar was the best! This a great Mexican taco stand.
Upon venturing into the esteemed establishment of Rico’s Tacos, nestled within the heart of El Morelia Supermercado, we were met with a most wondrous feast of authentic Mexican fare, prepared with the utmost care and mastery. The very air was imbued with the fragrant symphony of sizzling meats and warm spices, a siren’s call to the weary traveler in search of sustenance most divine.
We partook of the Carne Asada Fries—a dish so bounteous in portion and so rich in flavor that it verily transcended mere sustenance and entered the realm of indulgence. The golden, crisped potatoes, laden with succulent, perfectly seasoned carne asada, bore a most harmonious union with the velvety cascade of cheese, the verdant whisper of fresh guacamole, and the piquant embrace of finely diced pico de gallo. Every bite was a testament to the art of true culinary craftsmanship.
Yet, it was the Quesabirria that didst truly enrapture the senses and leave an indelible mark upon the soul. The tender shreds of slow-braised beef, enveloped within a crisped tortilla of golden hue, formed a textural delight most pleasing. But it was the sacred elixir—the accompanying consomé—that didst elevate this dish to the realm of the divine. Rich, robust, and steeped in deep, soulful flavors, the broth was naught less than a potion of pure delight, a nectar so exquisite that each morsel dipped within its depths was transformed into an offering fit for the gods.
Such a repast is rare in its excellence, and rarer still in its authenticity. Rico’s Tacos is not merely a place to dine, but rather, an experience to be savored, a journey through the heart and soul of Mexican cuisine. To any and all who seek a meal that doth delight both the palate and the spirit, I bid thee make haste to this most treasured establishment, and there, partake in a feast of unforgettable grandeur.
Five stars, most assuredly and most deservedly.
