Ricky Evans owner of Ricky D’s Rib Shack started his bbq business May 2013 from a food truck. June 2016 Evans opened a brick and mortar restaurant located at 302 Winchester Ave New Haven Connecticut. We are known for our tender fall of the bone ribs, beef brisket, wings, pulled pork and chopped chicken. We have a list of delicious sides to compliment the meat such as Mac & cheese, baked beans, collard greens, yams, Cole slaw and cornbread to name a few. The services we provide are dine-in, take-out, delivery, on-site catering and A La Carte catering. On-site catering is when we arrive on-site with our smoker to bring the cookout to you. This option is great if you have a party or an event coming up. #dontbiteyafingers

I’m so mad I wasted my money and had the nerve to invite someone else to try and they wasted the money. Only thing good is the meat. Yams dry and unseasoned collard greens so bland it don’t take much to put in the effort. This Mac’s and cheese lacks all flavor had to add for salt and pepper. Yall got the meats down pack please for the love of God work on these sides. Horrible.

I’ve been here a few times, and this is top tier BBQ. I love grabbing one of the Soul Bowls to-go. For the price of a fast food value meal, you get amazing smoky, tangy and tender brisket, collared greens, Mac & cheese, rice, and beans. Amazing flavor, quality, and value. Definitely worth checking this place out if you haven’t yet. I’ll keep coming back for sure.

This place was great! I had a combo #2, which came with half slab of ribs, 6 wings, 2 sides & cornbread. My absolute favorite was the mac! I bought another one before I left. The ribs were tender & the wings (a rub) was fabulous! It was a lot of food, so I have leftovers & I can’t wait to eat it tomorrow! Fantastic service! We didn’t wait long & everything came out hot. Great location & plenty of parking. I will definitely be going again!

Somebody finally got it right! This was my first visit to the location on Winchester Ave, New Haven CT, in the Science Park District. I was truly impressed. The atmosphere is clean, inviting, and family-friendly. The barbecue ribs were tender, juicy, and smoked to perfection. I met the owner, Ricky D, who has his own signature BBQ sauce and seasonings. His BBQ has just the right amount of twang & heat. We tried the wings as well with baked beans and cole slaw. Dinners come with 2 sides & cornbread. We had Mac & Cheese & Collard Greens, which were absolutely delicious. You can tell that Ricky D puts his heart & soul into what he does. If you are looking for BBQ I highly recommend Ricky D’s Rib Shack. The next time, I’m going to try his brisket. With that being said, I’ll be back!

First time here! Ordered the baked potato with brisket! Included sour cream, butter, cheese and bbq sauce. I like baked potatoes but I LOVED the one I ordered from here today. The brisket was juicy and tender and the potato was a decent size! Really enjoyed my meal, music was good too 🙂

Atmosphere – gave me cookout vibes. They played songs from when I was in high school.
Service – Nice young men, attentive but slow.
Food – Here for me is the issue. The food wasn’t to my liking. I didn’t like the taste. The Mack and cheese was dry and not very cheesy. The brisket wasn’t good, a little hard and also chewy. Didn’t seem fresh, didn’t have that soft succulent brisket taste. The Chicken was Very Good. I prefer the bbq wings over the dry rub. For the diner plate & 6 wings was $27.50 plus tax & tip. It was my first time purchasing from this establishment.

Hands-down great food! The pulled pork and brisket sandwiches were very well proportioned and juicy. They don’t skimp on anything and the prices are very affordable. I will definitely be ordering from here again.

Listen when I tell you this is the best bbq I’ve ever had I mean it. The brisket is amazing juicy it’s so tender it like melts. Mac and cheese baked beans cornbread is to die for. Definitely worth every penny. If I could give a higher rating I would off the scales good food. Definitely will be back.
