The food here is DELICIOUS! I really enjoy the baked beans and rib tips, it will definitely have you coming back for more. I have been in several times and on each occasion it is either hit or miss with the warmness of the staff, sometimes I get someone who appears happy to be serving and on other occasions I have gotten someone who appears unenthused and just not happy to be there. Nonetheless that will not stop me from patronizing the place as the food is really good and I am aware and understanding that dealing with the public is hard.

First let me say. The food there is always amazing 5 star but this review is going to be different. I drive down to This establishments at least once and sometimes twice a month from Madison Wisconsin which is a hour 20-30 north. According to traffic
The last two visits they’ve had some items that I wanted and usually get not available. 9/10 that’s my whole purpose for the ride. So today I’m wanting to take that drive and get me some good food but I called ahead of time to make sure those items were available. But the person who answered the phone totally wrecked my vibe.
Without even a hello she immediately yelled out. We are not take any call in or online orders. If you want food you gotta come in to place an order. I say to her, hey I’m coming from Wisconsin and she cuts me off with you gotta come in. She didn’t let me finish what I was about to say. I was about to let her know where I was coming from and also to ask if those certain item were readily available. She didn’t let me finish. So I ask her hey what time do you close and she immediately yell out we close at the same time as always.
This review is not to bash the restaurant. I support my people but at the same time I’m driving 1:30:00 there. Most times my order is right around $100 because others in my household want some as well. Then my gas fare usually round trip about $80.
Please show some courtesy to those of us that make long ways to support you.
She was really rude.
So now I’m off to Walmart to cook everything I was coming there for. I’ll be back though. Still will support

I hate to do this to a local business. I’ve had amazing experiences every time that I have made purchases at this location. Today was a little different. I came in and I ordered two large tips, one large family side and a large collard green which came out to be $47.63. I definitely thought that that was a reasonable price for the amount of tips that I received. But when I received my order my sides were hot and my tips were cold. I started to drive off instead of going inside to let them know that I wasn’t satisfied because it is a black owned business and I want to see them thrive, but what I’ve learned throughout the years is that my happiness matters as well. I went inside to let them know that my tips were cold they asked me to stay in the building while they heated them. When I received them again I received them with more saws but the temperature was still the same. I let them know that my tips were still cold but I would take them home and put them in the oven. I am not happy about having to cook or finish a meal that I paid for so that I can have a day off. Hopefully with me leaving this review that nobody else experiences this

Good food Good price but they keep switching times n days open it’s ran more like a food truck n there is nothing place to sit down no rest room either staff is ok not over friendly don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone in there smile they don’t look to happy to be there over all good food

Rick’s has the best catfish I’ve ever had ! Never fishy , and perfectly seasoned and fried ! The greens have great flavor , but they don’t have any meat in them . Macaroni was a little too thick for my liking today but everything is always made fresh so it’s not always like that , just depends who makes it . Overall this is hands down one of my favorite go to food spots (:

Food was straight trash. I ordered the 2 meat dinner. Ribs, wings, baked beans, and Mac and cheese. Not being racist, black people make the best Mac n cheese I’ve ever had; this place straight disappointment. Mac noodles weren’t even cooked all the way. Baked beans were ok. Little itty bitty wings were fried so dry. 2 ribs were ok. Not worth $24.

I tried this place out this weekend because 1. it was recommended by a coworker, and 2. my boyfriend has southern roots and really loves authentic southern food. The meals did not disappoint, the Chicago Style Tips was delicious and really one order was a heaping helping, more than enough. My boyfriend got the catfish dinner and cleaned the plate, so that says it all about that dish. Can’t wait to try the pulled pork and pinto beans. This is a must try if your in the area and love southern BBQ.

Ribs were a bit chard/burnt, too much sauce covered. Didn’t check out my order until I made it back to Freeport. Rib tips were good though. A lot different from several years ago when I use to come there. They no longer cook the ribs with the sauce on like I ordered several years ago. Spent about 100.00 plus a tip on this order thinking the order was going to be as good as the past. Again ribs not like it use to be but my lesson learned….
