My Jamaican friend was raving about their fried chicken so I went to try. My first experience was not delightful since I was given an old chicken. I asked for gravy of curry goat which I liked the most. My next visit I ordered medium size curry goat and it tasted way better than golden krust cause that’s the only place I know where to buy Jamaican food from lol. Anyways I was told not to go to Mt.Vernon at night cause it’s dangerous I ignored that warning. I had to buy a curry goat so I did. Funny thing there was a line of people and I witnessed some unexpected interaction with customer and server. I was warned about the people. No complaints about that except for when the server is rushing to get me out I wasn’t done ordering.Since I’m the only non black buying food there the person in front of me let me order first. Every single person ahead of me is ordering curry goat. That was my main purpose of going there to get platter of curry goat and it didn’t disappoint. The taste was on point fair price and I ordered extra chicken wing and a thigh. She gave me more than I asked for which I appreciate. Will definitely come back again to try the oxtail but during daylight.

I ordered 2 orders of jerk chicken rice and peas and the sorrel juice even though I came for stew fish rice and peas. Food is good no complaints about that still no excuse for the level of rudeness the service sucks too much attitude from females who really should just be mad at themselves. It’s not my fault they decided to show up at work looking like raga muffins. I called to order ahead the seafood and was told they don’t take orders ahead of time now when I stepped into the establishment they have posted clearly to call for seafood ahead of time. I won’t be going back myself I’ll have others pick my food up or use DoorDash cause them females is nasty. The juice mixes well with henny! Ok this is an update I ordered my food about an hour ago it doesn’t taste good at all. I had them cut my chickens up and all I got was bones and they had the nerve to only give me a small spoonful of vegetables and the rice was hard. It’s not real jerk sauce, don’t go here Mt Vernon has other places to eat that respect your money I got a plate full of rice and everything two small jerk rice and peas order and two of the sorrel drinks cost $34 no wonder the windows is blacked out. Go around the corner to the left or the right better restaurants can be found. They charges so high cause the rent high but the food is low low quality. Please remember to tip if you enjoyed the service and food even if it’s just change because it eventually adds up this encourages the staff to continue giving customers good service. It’s not easy to easy to serve the public’s. Show appreciation.

There is no atmosphere to rate, the service is hit or miss. They can have a bit of an attitude. Normally the oxtail are out of this world good, but lately they have been a bit off. The last plate I got they were so fatty that I barely got any bites of just the meat. Meh.

Don’t misunderstand…I love the flavor and ingredients of their chicken soup .. I am just soooo disappointed with the dumplings!!. I ask for them to please make sure it’s at least 3 in a small soup….and 5 in the large…you’d think flour was the most expensive ingredient…. THAT SOUP WOULD BE THE GREATEST IF YOU ALL ADD EQUALLY DUMPLINGS PER SIZE…3/small 5/large sized soups… But..I still love their soup…taste like cozy home old school soup ♀️.. stop lacking on dumplings

They cut up the chicken way too small causing you to have to deal with a bunch of bone fragments cutting the inside of your mouth. The service is lacking as well, they pay no attention to you while serving and you have to yell your head off in order to be heard. When you go to pay for your meal you are greeted with such nasty attitude making you feel as though you are an inconvenience. The atmosphere is also dark and dingy can’t really see what’s going on since everything is draped in black sheets and minimal lighting.

I go in an d order small chicken soup for $5.44. I pay cash $20, the cashier asks if I have .44 cents I say no, but I have a quarter or can pay with my card. She takes the $20.25 and gives me $14.00 change. Huh?! This is third time when paying with cash, they give the wrong amount back. I went back and got my correct change but her reasoning was typical. The quarter confused her. Good veggies and selection but it’s best to pay with a card. There’s always issue with the cash procedures. I’ll be back in 2024 to see if they’ve improved.

I ordered jerk chicken with rice n peas with oxtail gravy, what I got was a container of cold clumpy rice a peas n cold chicken, NO oxtail gravy. No fork no spoon or even a napkin.i gave 3 stars because they delivered ahead of time, disappointed.

Richie Rich has good food, undoubtedly. I will not take that away from them. My first visit to this location was as expected, waiting for more time then I would’ve liked with two people in front of me. But my issue is with my second visit. I went because I wanted their fried dumplings and oxtail. When I went, there were only two dumplings left and the people in front of me weren’t ordering them. A guy came from the area behind the curtains to the right of the entry door, without a mask, and took one. Then the guy who was washing dishes, came over to the food, without a mask, and took the last one. I personally find it disgusting that the employees who are not serving the food, come around the food unmasked in the height of a pandemic and pick at it. I will not be returning to the location, I’ll gladly go to The Bronx where I haven’t witnessed such activity.
