Friday night + happy hour + a night market speakeasy next door felt like the perfect excuse to stop into Rice Restaurant ✨

It was lively without being overwhelming, the kind of buzz you want before the night really begins. Since I arrived during happy hour, I leaned into that menu and started with the Mango Cloud cocktail, which was a mango rum layered with mango purée, coconut purée, and lime juice. Tropical, smooth, and dangerously easy to sip.

For food, I went with the tuna tower, fresh and well-balanced, and the BBQ pork ribs, glazed, tender, and full of flavor. Simple choices, done right.

Overall, a solid, enjoyable meal and a great way to kick off the evening before heading to the speakeasy next door.

✔️ Happy hour win
✔️ Great vibes
✔️ Would absolutely return

A dependable spot when you want to eat well, sip something fun, and keep the night moving.

Rice is one of my favorite restaurants in DC, the menu options are broad and always very delicious.

I like to order the chicken curry or the drunken noodles. No matter what you get it will always be a great treat!

A great place to grab a really good meal, prices are reasonable for DC. Staff are attentive but don’t hover. Cocktails are scrumptious. Be sure to visit the market afterwards!

Some of the best Thai food I’ve had in DC! Portions are large and the food is very flavorful and fresh. Pad thai had a delicious sauce on it and a great meat to noodle ratio

Generously giving two stars, but honestly the worst Thai food I’ve had. Larb gai was incredibly dry and lacked the pungent flavors you’d expect. Tom yum similarly was bland. And lastly the Khao Soi had dry chicken and missed the mark on the deep curry flavor. Surprised about the decent reviews given the other solid thai food around D.C. Staff was friendly and atmosphere is lively, but do better on the food.

Rice restaurant is so cozy! The pad see eew was so flavorful and there was so so much tofu. Definitely will come back while it’s still cold out.

Rice serves up some classic Thai favorites in an urban chic space that emphasizes simplicity and warmth. Located in the 14th St corridor, Rice maintains the trendy, chic neighborhood vibe with its earth-toned interior and sleek, full-service bar. It can get pretty busy, so I’d recommend coming on the early-side to ensure you’re not sitting too close to any other loud patrons. The food is very good and they offer a nice array of options to pick from. They frequently have specials like a curry sampler. I’d recommend getting the Papaya salad with shrimp, Green curry with beef, and the Seafood basil. The presentation of food is tastefully done – simple and clean. The portion sizes are pretty good considering the prices. I strongly encourage you to look at the seasonal menu, so you can try some special foods. This is a great date night spot and wouldn’t be ideal for small children. There’s an outside patio with seating available for those nice weather days. They also have a small market at the entrance with lots of Thai cooking ware and trinkets.

My favorite little Thai spot. This is a part of my weekly routine because they have this perfect little market downstairs with food ready-to-go. Some of my usual staples are the ginger chicken and chicken pad thai. The fried rice is excellent as well. My only complaint is its a bit pricey for the portion. The people are always very friendly as well.

One of the fanciest Thai restaurants in town, but with affordable prices. Their Pad Thai is the real one, using actual fish sauce, palm sugar, and tamarind sauce. Many other Thai restaurants use vinegar, salt, and white sugar which are not the original ingredients. Good to have this restaurant in the neighborhood.

We went in on a Thursday evening for a quick dinner. Things were generally pleasant. The restaurant was not particularly full, but did get busier shortly after our arrival. Our waitress was polite without being overly friendly. I was looking for something that was no longer on the menu, but she made some suggestions. Overall, two out of three of our party were very pleased with their food. Myself included. We both had variations of the noodle soup. The pineapple chicken was reported as just being alright—disproportionate with three broccoli florets to accompany the portion of meat.
After getting to go boxes, the table clearing felt rude and intrusive. As to hurry us along. Giving the benefit of the doubt that this was not intentional.
